Hi,fuel problem on the early fhc.Hesitation when coming away from roundabouts and hard from traffic lights.Joe the previous owner tried a simple swirl pot but no different. Can a failing accumulator cause these symptoms -replace or can it be bypassed? Any other options ? Seems to happen in all fuel states and more often in the warmer weather.thanks dave

Hi Dave

You can remove the breather pipe from the back of the accumulator (If it has one)...NOT the two fuel hoses either side of it...remove the green plug (If fitted) on the metering unit on the screen side below the rubber cap..Put ignition on position 1 but dont crank...just see if any fuel comes out of the pipe...if it does then the diaphragm is buggered...you can by-pass it by capping off the breather and joining the two fuel hoses...if you do this then leave the green plug un-plugged..but dont leave ignition on if the car is not running as the fuel pump will be...

If the metering unit is failing...it will just fail....Have the fuel filters been changed?

Hi,if I replace the accumulator will I probably still need a swirl pot ?or is each car different? I've done the test and there is a small amount of fuel weeping from the breather outlet.Dave

Hi mate

I would remove the breather at the accumulator and cap off with a nut and clip and then join the two hoses going through it..You dont really need an accumulator if you leave the green plug off as said previously.

I never had a swirl pot/reservoir on my 280i..just a "T" piece..I found a small issue of cutting out on a sharp turn right or left... but was only for seconds....

Check main pressure and control pressure or your just pissing in the wind these two circuits are critical for proper K Jetronic operation and failing of the main/high pressure circuit affects both so double trouble, it could be a faulty warm up regulator but thats just guessing rolleyes refer to above ^

and to be fair to the accumulator its only really there to hold fuel pressure when warm after switching off...If the breather is leaking fuel then I know it shouldn't be but not sure if that would cause hesitation...all the symptoms of my fuel related issues were caused by fuel leaking so a serious lack of fuel pressure was at fault, this only effected the re-starting once warm and cutting out when hot...I cannot say that I have had any hesitation ..it could be the warm up reg as that is the fuel regulator...if any crud has got in there at any stage...the cologne is really sensitive to cruddy fuel..is there any history as to engine?

Hi all, fixed it -well so far it's behaving! Took me about a minute to fix after I'd found it! The 90 degree ribbed air hose had come away by 1/4" underneath at the engine side! So hopefully swirl pot not required.Went for quick drive -nothing at roundabouts or pulling away hard which previously were getting worse! Thanks for all info/help Dave
