Took the bonnet off and was a bit shocked at what a clearer view I got through the bottom of the screen at the front lip of the dash top where it joins the flat panel with the nine(?) air vent holes.

It is much more dog eared than I thought - although it is just the usual sun light degredation.

The screen is coming out for replacement so there will be easy access to the area.

Having read and winced at the experiences of many of the Forum - and what must be admirable displays of dexterity! - in taking dash boards and dash tops out - I think at my age and build I would like to try and avoid that...

Has anyone done anything interesting/different with any form of profiled metal or plastic etc along that front edge that they could share some pictures of?

Or, I see around dash board repair kits? Anyone had any experience?

Thanks

EWAN

Yes the effect of sunlight and age is not good, they tend to curl up. This then impedes the (usually already meagre) airflow from the airvents.

I would guess if you replaced/reinforced what was under the leatherette with something more sturdy it would resist the force and stay a little flatter? Maybe a sheet of aly or something similar that won't corrode.

If I was doing mine, I think I would use a piece of carbon fibre cut to shape and stuck firmly down.

I like the carbon fibre idea - as that would carry through andmatch (hopefully) the dash board and treadplates.
