Saw Swordfish last night on TV. It must have been a huge boost for TVR in the US, but unless I'm missing something, they've scarcely made a impression - is that true? I've not seen a single TVR in the US. Next thing, why did John Travolta's car have a British numberplate on a right hand drive model? And finally, did Halle Berri show too much too soon in her career to make it as a serious actress, and not just an stunning appendage to future film? All key questions I think....

Well Nick, I think the film is very good and in the making of the film they used 4 Tuscans straight from the factory, the flim group had special permission to use the cars, there arent road legal in the US, well for the film. Its some thing to do with the emissions I think?
If you use the search function in general gassing you will find a thread talking about the film and Halle Berri did look rather good in the film but she wasnt the reason I watched the film, but you have made some good pionts

I want one of the 4 wheel drives the other guys were using - They were ace - all that weight, full of blokes with machine guns and they could still keep up with a Tuscan S with only 2 geezers in it.
Power and handling in a huge 4 wheel drive package.

I read an article about the Tuscan’s role in Swordfish in which somebody from the film was asked why the car had British plates. Their answer was something like “Because Gabriel [Travolta’s character] is a very rich powerful guy and can have anything he wants”

Naturally. Somebody who can have anything they want is definitely going to choose plates with a suffix suggesting he registered his car in the UK’s prestigious Blackpool area.

I expect real reason the film studio kept the Tuscan on British plates was to make it a bit more exotic for US audiences and/or because they couldn’t register it in the US so it was easier just to drive it on British plates.

The British plates were indeed left on the Tuscans because they looked more exotic to US audiences.

No, Halle Berry didn't show too much, too early in her career, because she won her Oscar after making Swordfish, if I'm not mistaken? (And anyway, is there such as thing as 'too much, too early?' )

I heard the film was released in the US just before the twin towers event - consequently it was pulled from the cinemas shortly after. Blinding film.

Re the number plates.. I think the exotic thing could be the answer: Gabriel is presented as this all powerful demigod who can do anything. Driving with illegal plates is a minor misdemeanor compared to pulling a large M60 type thing out the boot.

Halle Berry has been acting for a hell of a long time. She just never got major recognition as people only remember things like Flintstones. I don't imagine may people saw her in "Introducing Dorothy Dandridge" or "Losing Isaiah" or even "Monster's Ball" untill she won the oscar for it.

As for her getting them out, completely justified. It would be a crime against humanity to have a body that great and not share it with the world

You've not been looking in the right places. There are a few hundred out there..

Incidently, I'm bringing a brand new Tuscan to New Jersey next month where it will be auctioned.

I guess that means there are not emissions problems with TVRs being driven in US.

I live in New Jersey - Weehawken, by Hoboken - where's the auction being held?

The new Triple X film featuring Vin Diesel (from fast and furious) features a Tuscan too..... might it be becoming THE new car to have in movies ?...... at least it's better than the crap he drove in the fast and furious

I'm not sure I watched the same film as some of you. I bought it on DVD only because of the aforementioned Tuscan appearance. The car looked great, Halle Berry looked great. Hell, even Travolta looked okay. But what a pile of steaming style-over-content goat innards the film is. Peter & Jane scrpting with a "storyline" that was obviously written by Mr OB Vious. Cack, cack and thrice cack.

IMHO, of course.
