Sods law dictates that it will be something that you don't have that packs up.
Last year the alternator died somewhere in central France. Engine cut-out in the middle of Lyon.
2 days stuck just north of Lyon waiting for the parts and an unplanned for Euro700.
Silver lining was nice hotel with really good food and fantastic wine.

Agree with the above and let's face it the alternator can go in any car. I used to take some spare fuses, cable ties, insulation tape and some basic tools but never needed them. So just have a good European breakdown and recovery service now for peace of mind.

Exactly the same last year, but in Epernay/ France and 3 days instead of 2.

When I say 2 nights, it was Tuesday afternoon breakdown and Thursday afternoon back on the road.
The silver lining really was a very pleasant detour.
The French support, Police, Recovery, Repair Workshop were all great as well.
As the battery was flat we couldn't open the doors. They pulled the Tuscan on to the recovery truck with us still sat inside.
Best elevated views we ever had passing through central Lyon. laugh
