Poor fella. Hope everything goes well and we see him return to the sport!

Don't want to put too much of a downer on things but I would have thought that a return to rallying is highly unlikely, I reckon the MSA would think twice before giving him his licence back, as would the DVLA, on purely medical grounds alone.

But were I in his place, that would be the last thing on my mind, I'd be concentrating on surviving which I'm sure he is and, hope he will.

There's not been much in the way of news ever since he was diagnosed, so it seems the wait for any kind of further comment on the success or not of the operation will be suitably agonising.

We can but wait.

Oh I fully agree it'll be highly likely we never see him drive again, but there are plenty of other jobs such as commentating, manging a team/drivers...

Personally I just hope he pulls through (as with anyone in the same position)

Yes, I suppose you're right and having an objective/reason to live is as important as the medical attention he will be receiving. One of the co-drivers in our team is currently undergoing some pretty nasty treatment for cancer and part of what is keeping him going I think is the fact that when he's better he'll get to go out with the lads and risk his life again!

Much depends on what grade of astrocytoma Burns has. The article doesn't say. They vary from Grade 1 from which is it is possible to make a more-or-less full recovery to Grade IV for which the prognosis is very poor indeed.

Latest news (1600hrs) is that the operation was 'very successful'. Fingers crossed.

Rob.

Phew! Obviously I was wrong, it's nice to know that they've chosen to give out some information about progress, sparse though it is. Let's hope things are on the up now.

Indeed - craniotomy = lost license for a minumum of 12 months. Luckily my tumour was benign, unfortunately, Mr Burns has an astrocytoma - this has three variations the most common of which is glioblastoma multiforme - this has a very high mortality rate at 2 years. Wishing him well...
