Going for the first time this Sunday weather permitting.

I'm a budding photographer so want to get some practice in on fast moving objects , namely some panning shots of cars with blurred backgrounds etc.

Can you advise where is good to get an unobstructed view and how the spectator sections are organised? Can you position yourself in between for example, or only designated spots for safety?

Recommendations ?

The good news is that this year a lot of foliage has been removed from banking on the outside of hollow bend meening that spectators now get a much more open view. If you position yourself on the banking towards the end of hollow bend you'll get good photographic opportunities of the cars leaving the start line and running right through to the hairpin (Karousell) which is about half the length of the track.

It can be interesting to position yourself at the exit of Karousell where some cars get a little tail happy before they race over Deer's Leap towards Ashes bend. Also the exit of Ashes bend is a good place to see the cars as again some get tail happy before they power on towards the finish. The spectator viewing area only extends a short way from Ashes towards Burke's rise.

It's also worth spending time near the start where you can get close to the cars as they leave the start line and power down the hill, from there you can catch glimpses of them at other points on the track.

There's a track layout on this page

Thanks for the great reply! I'm really hoping it's as nice a day as today, have been itching to get out with the camera and smell some race cars.

You can walk from one end of the track to the other in about 5 minutes so you can get shots from every section during the day.

No fences obscuring your view like most circuits either.

Did you go, and did you take any good pictures?

I did, and 500! I will be editing my favourites tomorrow and will share them here. Managed to get a burst shot of the only crash whilst setting my camera up, luckily all ok I believe. Wasn't major.

Really enjoyed it, not been to much in the way of Motorsport events before. The smell and sounds alone were addictive .
