...to fill the bird feeder.

Anyone who saw my first two squirrels threads will remember the cunning wooden discs to prevent theft.
This is what we witnessed this morning.....

Having hung by his feet from the thin branch above, the little blighter pushed the disc flat and jumped onto the rope by the feeder.

Back to the drawing board......

That should sort your problem, plus provide an alternative food supply for the birds

My wife favours hanging the bird feeder from a vertical rope with the discs above it. I'll get to work. Any other slightly hare-brained ideas gratefully received.

We don't bother. We put two bird feeders up, one for the birds and one for the squirrel. We just love watching them - they're really funny. Especially when they see you watching them and they just stop, look at you and put a paw on their chest as if to say 'what? me?'

Aaah...but that IS why I bother. That would be too easy for them. I don't mind them eating food we put out for the birds, but I want to make it a battle of wits.

However, if someone can give some idea of how to keep badgers and muntjac out of the garden I'd like to hear.

Deer - tights stuffed with hair (grab some from your local hairdresser) are supposed to do the job, as it smells as though someone's around. Not sure how well it works, however! The parent's had a go with it, and I think it was ok for a while...

We had one of those. The squirrels stripped it down in the night and buried most of it. What they couldn't carry between them they used as a toilet.

It was quite distressing.

Put the nuts on top of an rc car. Something quick that'll give him a real jump.

I had a similar battle of wits with a squirrel many years ago. Whatever I did, the little devil found a way to circumvent the protective measures and get the nuts, including flying leaps from a distant cherry tree.

Maybe should be ashamed to confess that I gave in and shot the damned thing - my excuse is that I was brought up with red squirrels and consider these grey things to be nothing but furry, fecund rats.

The final solution.....

It`s only because they are furry that people go "aaah".

Same with city folk and foxes.

Runs to take cover..........

Foxhunting with speedboats is a sport I thoroughly approve of....

And for the badgers, the holes they dig to shit in, you shit in yourself.

You know, those 'squirrel proof' bird feeders do actually work - the ones that look like a bird feeder inside a birdcage. We went through loads of attempts before finding this as the best. The only way it can be got at at all is if they shake it loads and loads so that a couple of nuts fall out. They dont bother.

Wait till the squirrel has decided that living under your bedroom floorboards might be fun.
