Has anyone had this done for the 2.0 TSI engine? Mine's the 180 bhp version in the Scirocco. I've only had it nearly 2 weeks but i just fancy a bit of a extra noise without going OTT and resorting to full exhaust systems.

I seem to hear different opinions on the noise it makes and how much extra it generates. Mine's got the DSG box so i'm hoping for some louder farts on upshifts, as it's generally fairly quiet and subtle.

I've watched some videos and it sounds pretty good for a cheap mod.

Not had it done on that engine, but i've had it removed on other TSI engines + DSG in the past.

Fart noises on upshifts - great!

Droning on the motorway - bad.

Yeah, that's another thing i've heard mixed reviews on, the drone. I'm not sure i'd be too bothered though, as i rarely do any long motorway journeys and it's mostly town/city driving, around 8k miles pa.

How much did it cost you, do you remember?

Yeah, wasn't too bad, but something to consider!

£60 from a reputable exhaust specialist - I wouldn't pay any more than that!

I see you're based in Cheshire. Where did you take yours to get done? There's a garage near me that did some work on my old 'Rocco, fitting some new wheels and lowering springs. They were pretty good but not sure if doing this kind of thing is the norm for them. I know it's not a difficult job though.

I took it to Top Gear in Stockport,

https://tgsexhausts.co.uk/

Took about 30 minutes, had no problems, they did a neat job. Would recommend if you're close.

Going back a few years, but yes, it was fairly a quick turnaround from the initial call. Guess it all depends on their workload.

Called them a few minutes go and they quoted anywhere between £90 - £120. They advised it'd be around an hours work. Seems quite expensive really, as most people seem to get it done for around £50. Not keen on paying that really.

Gonna call that local garage who did some work fro me previously and see if they'd do it and what they'd charge.

I've got a Scorpion non res cat back on a 2.0 TSI with DSG.

It is louder but not too loud for normal driving, definitely gets louder and deeper when its settled after some time.

The drone on the motorway is a bit annoying though.

You get a louder DSG noise on full throttle shifts but it doesn't do that loud fart noise I've seen on alot of vids.

I think the cat will make the fart noise louder if that's what you want, get a sports/decat.

They must have upped their prices, which is a shame as they did do a good job on mine.

Like you said, £90-120 is a little steep for cutting out a resonator and welding in a bit of stainless steel pipe.

I can only assume that it's become more of a popular mod now. So, they've whacked the price for the increased demand.

It's annoying, as they seem to have a good rep there and a good few people have had it done and rated them. It's still a fairly simple procedure though. I'm probably gonna leave it for a month or so anyway but i'll ring my local garage and see if they can do it and how much they'd charge.

Bit of an update on this, if anyone is interested, that is biggrin

I booked the car in a Top Gear in Stockport and took the plunge. They managed to squeeze me in one afternoon, as they are usually fairly busy. We were then all left quite surprised that my car actually has 2 mid-boxes/resonators. There's one large rounded silencer in the middle and then there's a smaller box further to the back of the car, closer to the back-box. It's a bit odd really, as mine has the same 2.0 TSI engine as used in various amount of VAG cars, which have all only had the one silencer/resonator. Anyway, i ended up opting for the straight middle one, as they said it won't take them as long, so will be cheaper for me and less fiddly for them to do.

For me, the car now sounds fantastic. In fact, the car having another silencer at the back could be a blessing in disguise, as there is no drone whatsoever and it's still fairly quiet on idle and slower speed. It's now got a lovely tone and rasp to it along with the obligatory DSG farts, that obviously everyone loves here on PH! I was worried that it wouldn't make much of a difference, with the other silencer being present. However, i can only assume that it is now muffling a little bit of noise that can be too much for some people. I see this as being the perfect middle-ground between having that bit of extra wanted noise under load while not being too overly obnoxious or droney.

Great work by the chaps at Top Gear in Stockport too thumbup

Excellent! I'm glad you took the plunge. It can be a bit daunting paying someone to basically hack away part of your exhaust system. But the results are worth it. :-)

Yeah definitely, especially on a 3-month old car! It's nothing that can't be reversed though but i don't think i will be doing anyway. I was tempted to get rid of both resonators, but it would of taken a while and cost a fair bit more extra. It's just the perfect amount of noise for me the way it is now.

It's gonna take me a while to get bored of it, put it that way. I'm just gonna buy some paddle-shift extensions now and just enjoy it really. I must say that the lads at TG were great. Really helpful and nice chaps that really know their stuff. I would highly recommend them, so thanks for telling me about them.
