it's just gone past 13k miles and pads need doings, the dealer is recommending that I have the disks done at the same time. Total cost £891.

The reasoning behind this is that they have seen some instances where new pads on old disks cause undesirable noises etc.

Interested in your experiences here, how long should a set of disks last, how frequently you change them etc.

I'm amazed you need pads after only 13,000 miles. I did 36,000 in mine and didn't even need them changing then!

Is it a Porsche main dealer who’s quoted you for this work..?

Unless you’ve done lots of track days and fried your brake pads, I’d be amazed if they need changing after only 13,000 miles. Likewise for the discs, unless they’re warped, they shouldn’t need changing either. I’d either ask for a second opinion, or ask for pad and disk thicknesses versus the minimum recommended.

Also, as long as the brake discs are not warped or grooved, and not worn down to the minimum thickness, then you can run new pads on old disks.

yeah that's what I was quoted.

I haven't done any track days, gut feel is that the disks would be fine.

Has anyone else swapped just the pads on a 991.1, and any unwanted noises ??
