Thread resurrection - going over my front suspension and whilst everything is apart it makes sense to replace the 31,000 mile track rod ends.
These fit pretty much all Gaydon era cars including one 77, so I'm pretty sure they're a generic parts bin part.
Anyone come across a supplier ? Haven't got mine off yet to check the part nr as I'm awaiting a bigger ball joint splitter .
"Normal" cars these are £15 each ish.

contact James at David Appleby Engineering. They can supply them.
Yep - seen them Ali, but still 3 x the cost of normal cars, which I'm reluctant to pay if they're a standard Ford/Jag/Volvo part. Will get the old one off, measure up and then see what's around. If it's an AM only part that's fine, but I do like to investigate where I can.
Watch this space - I have a pair arriving hopefully today and will report back. They're common across most of the Gaydon era so will be a good find if it works.
Length is fine, threads are fine, so it's just down to the taper being correct.....
If they are, they can be had for £9 up to £20 depending on quality. I've ordered Meyle.

Posting delayed - with me early next week now I'm afraid. May as well share my research...
The code on my tie rod end is 025-060-019-012 so I googled it and came up with nothing, aside from a chap in Russia who had exactly the same code on his tie rod end on an Opel Frontera.
I then did some searching on the dimensions for an Opel Frontera and they're the same as our cars, 75mm length, M14 x 1.5 threads and visually look exactly the same. The part numbers are different however for all the different manufacturers.
The only thing I haven't been able to determine is the taper, which is crucial, so ordered a pair of Meyle, which are top quality and will measure upon arrival.
Worst case scenario is I send them back and pay the postage costs.

And the results are in...
Tie rod ends arrived today and here's a couple of pics to compare
The threaded length is exactly the same as original, the diameter of the thinnest part of the taper is pretty much exactly the same, at a whisker over 16mm (allowing for my measuring skills or lack of), the only thing I am unable to check totally accurately is the diameter at an exact same point going down the taper. Using a crude measurement with my vernier, they look to be the same. Proof will be in the fitting pudding and the knuckles are away being vapour blasted with the other suspension components.
If I were a betting man - which I am, I would say they're exactly the same part. Given that the original part nr on the rubber boot for the Vantage matches the same on Opel Frontera and the dimensions look to be exactly the same, I'd say we have a result.
This is what I ordered - and bear in mind you can get lesser quality cheaper https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MEYLE-616-020-0007-TIE-... Alternatively you can pay £62 each plus postage from Scuderia
Edit - pushed the rubber boot down and the shaft goes from a taper to a constant diameter. Measured the constant diameter and both are 18mm with a length of tapered shaft at 16mm. Definitely an exact match.
I'm also in touch with Meyle tech department to get them to confirm it's an exact match.

I went for a lever type ball joint which worked well. Remember to leave the nut on the end of the tie rod end to prevent the splitter tip slipping off.
Having stripped down the whole of my front suspension (thread to follow once finished) I did encounter a problem getting one of the control arms separated from the knuckle. The splitter width (open jaw bit) is generally 20mm, however one of the ball joints needed a min of 27mm. I ended up taking the suspension components, all attached to each other to my local garage and they split them apart and removed the bearing/hub units for £20. Money well spent and I'd highly recommend if your car is over 10 or so years old.
My tie rods are looking a bit rusty, so thinking of cleaning those up. Anyone had any experience removing the bellows and tie rods before I launch in there ?
Incidentally James - what ARB bushes did you use ? Powerflex reckon they're working on a Vantage solution for front and rear which should be available before the end of the year, so I've given them up heads up on the bigger Sports Pack rear bushes for us SP owners.
