I changed the mounts on my old 996 GT2 to the RSS type and was pleasantly surprised by the results. The shift felt more precise and I barely noticed the extra noise or vibration. Was thinking of perhaps going a step further and trying solid mounts (Rennline or similar), on my current 996 Mk.2 GT3.

I'd appreciate feedback on solid mounts or whatever you've found that works well? I have noticed that the RSS mounts seem to have jumped in price since I last bought a pair! My main goal being a slicker shift.

Hi,

I have destroyed 2 sets of RSS mounts on my GT3.

Moved to semi-solid mounts from Rennline and still going strong.

RSS are fine for road useage but did not last very long for me on track. (2 years)

Thanks Mike. Are these the adjustable mounts?

I've had 964RS mounts in mine for at least 5 years (125+ trackdays) & they're still fine. Solid mounts will transmit a massive amount of noise & vibration into the shell & can eventually lead to a cracked engine carrier. Fine for a race car, not so great in a road car.

As you're trying to improve the shift, it's worth considering changing the gearbox mount to the one used in the 997.2 RS. I also use the 997.2 RS gearshift, which has metal bushes to take the slop out of the plastic bushes used on previous shifts. Those 2 mods combined with Cup cables makes it just about perfect imo.

Since my post I've done a little reading up on solid mounts and it seems that, as you say, they're not really a practical option for a non-dedicated track car.

I'll check out the 964RS mounts.
