I’m replacing one of the exhaust silencers on my 2003 996.2 Carrera 4, with a Dansk Sport silencer. I’ve bought a Dansk fitting kit including new clamps. My question is should I use exhaust sealing paste around the joint sealed by the clamp? I’ve looked on various forums, and can views for and against. Some people recommend using silicone instead of paste.
I’d appreciate any views from anyone who has replaced their 996 back boxes - did you use paste or not, and did the joint blow?

If the kit is well made, you shouldn't need paste.

I can't advise on Porsche as I mostly work on old Italian stuff, but I would always view paste as a bodge.

I've sometimes had to spend some time "adjusting" pattern parts, but I'd rather do that. smile

Fitted the dansk sport boxes to my '99 996. Used the fitting kit and no paste, not had any issues regarding blowing.
