Sorry guys but I know a lot of you are in IT and a friend and myself are coming to London soon and need headhunter locations for IT.

I use to have the names of a few from when I worked there 88-91 but I can't find their names after 11 years

Any tips of who are the better ones ?

Am I right in assuming that you are coming looking for IT work, cause the UK at the moment is not the best place in the world!

The bottom has fallen out of the IT market here big time! Be very prepared to queue long and hard for even averagely paid work.

As for headhunters/agencies, it is a buyers market big time so most of them don't give a f**k about those being employed. It is easier just to pass all the info onto the client and let them make the mistake.

If you have any contacts, even from long ago I would try to use them as it may get you a step further up the ladder. It all helps.

Anyway, good luck.

thanks Jarett,

I think the bottom has dropped out of IT everywhere, apart from a few niche areas. I was either going to buy my own business or come to London for a few years so I think you have just made my decision for me.
Cheers

I'm a contract project manager, so I know the market isn't at its best at the moment, so how come the government is wafting around its figures that employment is at an all time low? I don't see that any other sector is havinga massive boom that's picking up all the out of work IT people?

Its all how you define "unemployed". I was of the impression that unemployment only counted those actually claiming unemployment benefit, and not the raft of alternative benefits.

The sooner they get you off unemployment benefit and onto another, then the figures go down.

You'd have thought if more people WERE in employment, our tax burden would go down, as the tax revenue would be significantly higher - then again, it has grown massively in the last 5 years :-(

Same with just about any govt. figures that make the govt. look good... change the way you count to swing the result any way you want.

Working for the Government seems to be the only growth area there is at present (I don't by the way)

The IT market is defniately deflated at present - personally I recon we have about 6 months to a year before things turn around.

If you want to email me offline and let me know what you are looking for (and what you do) I would be happy to help a fellow PHer (if I can). I can't make any promises though. As people have already pointed out it is a buyers market.
there are signs of improvment though so all is not lost !

It must be the numerous human battery hens working in call centres that are making up for the losses.

One of our guys is on the recieving end of the relentless pressure from the recruitment agancies. I don't envy him, it horrible.

We are looking for a very experienced Java programmer to join our development team. Based at home, but expect to go to the office in Oxford one or twice a week at the moment.

If anyone wants to know more, I'll do my best. Personal enquiries only please. Agencies can off !

We are a small company which has been going a year. Future is looking good as sales are starting to roll in thick and fast across Europe. Guaranteed working here won't be dull!

Hey Nacund - some of us have feelings you know :-)
Ok thats a lie, but I might add that some of us have made the ultimate sacrifice in order to service the needs of you guys out there in the employment market - I sold my Chimaera at the start of the year to fund my rec company.
Only do Sales recruitment though but John if you let me know your skillset I can recommend some of the better agencies.
BTW I started the company on September 6th last year - just don't ask any advice about career timing.

thanks gents,

I'll be in touch via email to Ben and Sam as suggested. Hope I don't have to swap the GT4 for a TVR to get job acceptance

I really enjoyed my previous stay in London (though the cost of living is pretty high) and hope the Friday night "tradition" of pub strippers for departing colleagues hasn't been banned :nopleaseicantdothat: !!!!

Many moons ago a group of us were being courted by a contracting agency. Down the pub he told us far more than I suspect he meant to.

His aim was to pay us what he thought we would be happy with and charge the customer what he could get away with. In a few examples he quoted he was charging exactly double what he was paying out

This was at a time when the typical contract lasted one to three years.

I.E. the was going to get the same pay as me for doing absolutely all. And the greedy had about a dozen contractors working through him already.

Ben, there must be one or two decent contacting and recruitment agencies out there; and I know a few of you are OK blokes - but in my experience the majority are complete

Nacnud - its a pity you want Java and not C++, otherwise I would be your man.

Yeah - I was a C++ man and learn't Java on the fly when this company was set up.

Java has got to be the easiest language I have ever programmed in. Java minimises run-time problems and has a brilliant support library. Even the Beta version of our product didn't suffer from memory leaks or blue screens.

Also - we took on a Java / Web guru eight months ago so as a company we aren't short of Java expertise.

Personally I'd be happy bringing a C++ guy on board because if they can write C++ then their Java is bound to be OK. Won't take too long to ramp up skills either. Learning the product is bound to be the hard bit.

However, the funds were approved for a shit hot Java programmer, so that is what we are recruiting.

Nacnud - No go on say what you mean. Understand exactly where you're coming from, entry in Recruitment is open to anyone and the industry has shot itself in the foot by hiring hordes of muppets. Thats how I got my break anyway.....

John - Would be a pleasure to help you indulge in your quest for loose scantily clad women. Even if you do have a girl's car
