Why? BAR lost the plot after the end of last season, they need as much help as they can get to get back on performance terms with Ferrari, McLaren and Renault.

Becuase I don't think they did lose the plot. With the limited testing they are allowed after the season started they have taken a car they thought was good but had a flaw into a car that has become a top 3 car. I have every respect for De Ferran as a racer on the American circuit, but as a manager? Perhaps the clincher is that the mods were made before he arrived. He is no Ron Dennis/Ross Brawn.

I reckon they lost the plot after Dave Richards left. De Ferran could be just the man they need.
