Was in 2 minds about posting as I don't want to jinx anything but I've taken the plunge after much travelling to view cars ... coming next week..

Been 5yrs since I had a true classic old car. Lots to re-learn.

Very possibly, if she arrives in good nick on Wednesday. I'll be chewing my nails all day.

Yea hoping to get to some Italian meets etc. Might be able to get to the alfaholics day at castle combe.

It was restored a few yrs ago by look of it so it's very tidy. I've a list of jobs I want to do already such as 123 dizzy and get rid of points. Carbs need a fettle. Passenger door hinge slightly dropped. Oil weep on diff and poss box. All stuff I can tackle myself as I like hands on.
It's been very nicely built, 2 litre conversion, recaro seats, nicely trimmed, alfaholics front end, handling kit etc.
Hoping to crack straight on with getting it upto what I want, the main thing is the chassis appears to have been done well and all the brake and fluid lines are new as is the loom.
Can't wait.

That looks Ace, any more photos ? I'd really like one of these, did you look at many before you bought ? I keep checking the ads for 105's but don't seem to be too many around. I've never driven one, have been mainly into classic Porsches and have an Alfa SZ Zagato and keen to add a step front to my stable. How do they drive ?

Thanks

They aren't fast by modern standards obviously and it's a steering box setup. They've a character to the handling. Discs all round were top spec in the day. I've viewed 3 and driven hundreds of miles to do so!

Couple of questions if anyone can assist? What's the paint code likely to be for that Alfa red and if I wanted a small touch up paint pen who might supply a reasonable match so I can touch in any stone chips?
Also has anyone fitted a 123 distributor and had any issues or is it fairly straightforward?
Cheers

Most likely it's AR 501, I've bought nicely matching touch up paint at a Dutch parts supplier (not to use of you...).

I haven't yet fitted a 123 myself (it's on the list for this year), but from what I gather it's dead simple. Google the instruction manual and you'll see. Pretty much connect everything, turn it until a light comes on and it should run before fine tuning.

Yea hoping it's fairly easy. I think you can get one from. Alfaholics with a curve ready for 2 litre engines.
Meant to ask also as I'm not sure what was done to this head but I assume it would need lead replacement additive in the fuel for the valve seats?

You don’t need lead additives on the Nord engine, as it’s an aluminium head it already has hardened valve seats. Just run her on quality fuel. I use Shell V Power, nothing else unless I’m desperate. If you have to use 95Ron, drop some octane booster in it.

There are a few variations on the 123, depending on how much control you want. I’d have a chat with Alfaholics and get their recommendations.

AR 501 changed shade quite regularly, you would need to get it professionally matched, unless the guys who painted it can advise.

Very helpful thanks. Good news on the head front then. I'll run it on 99 octane from Costco as it's local to me and the R8 seems to love it, or vpowerif I see some.
Alfaholics have been v helpful already. Also spent ages browsing the classic Alfa parts catalogue, so many spares available for these.

Cheers

I tend to use Shell V Power and not some of the other higher octane fuels around that use mostly ethanol whichhas a corrosive effect on many bits of older especially carburettor engines - not sure about Costco but I believe Tesco fuel has a high ethanol content.

/\ This.

What spec is your engine re. pistons/compression, carbs and cams?

Depending on your car's intended use (relatively relaxed cruising, or more spirited driving),
what are the specs of the rear axle and the gearbox's fifth ratio?

very good questions, and ones at this moment i cant answer as yet!
its going to be used for a bit of spirited road driving, perhaps some "easy" summer trackday use if upto it, without killing it. (once i've given it a going over and know whats what!) :-)

Since you've posted abut this I've done a few searches for Alfa Stepnose and some of the results are as gorgeous as your car (in fact I had to make a subfolder in my Italian Classics screenshots folder hehe !)
