JUst finished turning mine into 10"s

I have to say. Wow what the difference from 12" it go around the corner no problem and very quick so i need a bucket seat to hold me in!

I bought used cailpers/hubs/cv/driveshaft/flange for £130 at shows, then i send the cailpers off to MiniMall for reconditioning for £75. fitted it with new disc, and ebc pads.

fitted 10x5" mambas with carmacs tyres, with 2 different unknown brands in rear.

Wow. the handling/grip is really good, it go around much quicker!

It's worth the money to turn it into 10" I am very addicted driving my mini with 10"s.

total cost is around £350 including wheels, and whole cooper s brakes setup.

pretty much exactly the same setup as mine mate! 10" wheels are brilliant and the cooper S discs are good ive just upgraded to some 4 groove discs with greenstuff pads.

are those grp 2 arches? same as mine if they are (see my pic in profile)

i don't know about carmac tyres but im running falken FK-07E and would suggest them V.good

Yep they are Gp2 arches. i love those arches. the arches / wheel are just legal. look like toy car now

Nice - is the rolling diamater [ or is it radius, never managed to do maths ] of the wheel+tire at ten inch actually smaller than 12inch? Any differences in acceleration or top end?

There is difference in accerlation, and cornering. havent tried top end but it seem to get into 70mph easier and quicker

rolling curimfence(sp?) on 10" on 165/70/10" is bit smaller than 12" with 165/65/12 just inch smaller when compared wheel against wheel.

Blimey, very cool indeed!

Just been to see my Mini garage and have decided to go to 10" as well! Now the Chim is going (chap picks it up next week) I will need something to take my mind off it - and this sounds just the trick!

Although I will be a complete wuss and help out the garage to do it rather than do it myself, as it is my daily I don't want my utter inexperience to muck it up and leave me with no car!

Looking forward to it though, especially the handling!

whereabouts are you taking it to? I have been struggling to get my mini in to a garage that is trustworthy

They are not just a garage they are absolute devotees and will go out of their way to help people. Geoff the owner has just restored a Moke - stunning car, a deep metallic blue with amazing wheels (not original - I know ) and the limo they did for one of the club members weddings is beautiful.

Perhaps come up to ours one day and we will pile down there and I will introduce you to them.

Back on topic though - I really want anthracite 10" minilights to go on the (silver) mini - what do you think?

i like anthracite minilights as there are far too many minis rolling on the usual minilight and a bit of variation is always good.

a bit of contrast is always good i think as i wasnt sure about my mambas before i put them on but i think they look brilliant now

I'm really taken with this 10" wheel idea... I've never tried mine on 10s, might have to find some drum brakes and do an experiment to see if I like the handling!

Very nice mate. I have always loved 10's on minis. Dont get me wrong, nice chunky 13's with big wide arches look cool, but a mini sat on 10's is hard to beat

This wont tell you about top end etc, but if you ever need to work out Rolling Radius differences etc, then you cant go to far wrong with Rochford Tyres Calculator

Regarding tyre radius, Camacs are giant high profile things, Falken are the other end of the spectrum, just because it says 165/70, there is no specification to what happens "outside the line". If I recall correctly, the difference is about 20mm radius between those 2. Quite a bit.

I'm running A032R's on a set of 7" rims. -2.5/-1.75 camber, 3.2deg castor, rear tow in set at 0, rear antiroll bar and it is just unbeatable on the twisties. It defies physics.

I reckon your next step is getting some adjustable links/brackets from huddersfield spares (cheapest and the quality is there+free polybushes) People swear about Spax but I reckon they are great, huddersfield are also the cheapest for them. Don't buy the camber only rear brackets as you have to shim them and it's a serious hassle. Also Midland Wheel Suppliers are the cheapest source of Yoko tyres. Huddersfield operates a policy of £200+ = free postage. Nice. I think MWS might do the same thing because I remember my tyres being £200 for 4 which beat everyone elses quote and I would have remembered getting stung for the postage.

10" wheels all the way for me. I haven't heard any good argument for 13"s, not even big brakes.

Yeah carmac is ok. will change to yokoahama a008 once i sort the front ends. carmac makes nice burning rubber when you push the mini about :P

My brother had Camacs on his mini many years ago, and it suffered from an awfull lurch as you turned in, it really felt like the back end was going to step out, though it never actually did (at least no in the dry). Putting a decent set of Yoko's on completely fixed this nasty trait.
