Audi A4 or A5??
Discussion
Looking at getting a used new car and looking for something a bit more special! Have about a 10k max budget and originally looked at BMW 320d m sport but with my budget looks like I would need to get one with the possible dodgy n47 engine that has had a fair few and very expensive fixes needed done so that has put me off! Now looking at Audi's aswell and have seen a 59plate A4 sline quattro 2l TDI with 68k at 10k and also a A5 2l TDI sportsline 5 door for same price but not sure of millage unfortunately! Any owners advise would be appreciated thanks.
Does bootspace matter to you? The hatch on the (5 door) A5 makes for a much more practical option- getting stuff into the boot of an A4 is a PITA.
I'm not sure of the differences internally of cars of that age - I had a 62 plate A5 (diesel) for 3 years, loved it. It'd be worth checking what the specs are on the MMI (headunit) are - do you need DAB, bluetooth etc My A5 (annoyingly) wouldn't play audio over bluetooth (a2dp) but did do calls. It was probably a 50p cost saving when it was built. It did have 2 SD card slots though, which made music simple.
Both nice cars.

it's only me and my wife just now but possibly a baby in a year or 2 so probably not that big a deal on the size for a few years. I'm not bothered about sat nav but would be nice if it streamed music via Bluetooth but again if it had a aux input socket to play music that would do me just fine worst case I could always get an FM transmitter device for my music and podcasts. But the 2 I have seen look lovely cars! Though I have found out this morning the A5 has done 110kmiles so would favour the A4 right now with the lower miles. Again though looks like the A4 seems to need a timing belt and water pump about 70kmiles by the look of the ones I have seen for sale. But the main thing is they seem to look more reliable than the BMW engine!I'm not sure of the differences internally of cars of that age - I had a 62 plate A5 (diesel) for 3 years, loved it. Id go for an estate now if your planning a baby, you will need all the space you can get!
The Audi estates are not bad looking, especially in s line form.
yeah I seen a really nice one going for about 7k but the wife ain't as keen on it! Not sporty enough looking lol where as I think it still looks good for an estate. The Audi estates are not bad looking, especially in s line form.

Buy something sporty and enjoy it before the kid(s) arrive.
Oh an watch Michael Mcintyre's sketch on kids.
Think your right buddy as the kid might never come along anyway lol there are some really nice and good value A4 slines but most of them are the 140bhp version so wonder if one of them with a remapping would feel sporty enough!? Suppose anything would than my 115bhp ds4 I have right now! Oh an watch Michael Mcintyre's sketch on kids.
You can still have something sporty when the kids are small, it’s only now my daughter is 6 and has long-ish legs for her age we need something practical. So, I have an a B8 A4 Avant 3.0TDI Quattro black edition. Which is brilliant, fast, fun and cheap to run. Sure, it’s no RS4, but it was a fraction of the price!

I think for £10k the A5 makes a good buy. Decent range of engines and still looks great even after 10-years. Try and get the facelift if you can which was 2012 onwards.
Yeah I'm amazed at how good some of these 8/9 year old cars can look (like as good as new) the A5 seems to have very good reviews even with higher millages.Gassing Station | Audi, Seat, Skoda & VW | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
