Vertu Mobile Phones (worlds most expensive Mobile)

Has anyone Bought or used one of these "Luxury" Phones ?

If so what do you think of them ?
Just viewed the site www.vertu.com and they look amazing.

The Rolex of mobile phones.

Are they worth it? I don't think so.

Whilst, with a watch, you are paying for quality and craftsmanship, I'm not so sure with mobile phones - OK, so they're expensive, exclusive and made of nice materials, but what is the real advantage of having one of these over my Siemens A60 in the way an Aston Martin V8 is over a Ford Capri?

Seen one in a window at T1, Heathrow... looked exceptionally well constructed and very smart... no price tag mind *

Probably better to compare the Vertu to a Maybach 'cause like the car it has a button you can press to be put through to a private concierge service.

OTOH the phone looks fantastic and the car doesn't...

Im sure they are just pretty Nokia 89**'s.

One of the traders at work had one, took it as a debt someone owed him £1500 I think.

The menu's looked like the nokia ones

On the early ones they even made the screws out of 18ct gold.

Unfortunately gold is a rather soft metal and the phones fell apart.

There was no charge for replacing them.

They are beautiful. But I don't understand who buys them, most people replace a phone every 18mths.

Its a phone ffs. It has numbers to press if you want to talk to someone and a thing that rings if someone wants to talk to you. What else do you need?

I read somewhere that we are now so obsessed with having the latest phones that there are now more phones than people in the UK.

Indeed. Spending craploads on a watch is ok as a good watch will be timeless*.

Spending thousands on a bit of consumer electronics that performs no better than a £100 unit and will be outdated in a year smacks of posing to the extreme.

B list celebs and footballers will lap them up.

You buy an expensive car because not only does it look fantastic, but it also performs to an equally high standard. This phone will do nothing more than a £200 pay as you go. Its like buying a solid gold door stop.....

They are extremly well engineered. proper engineering is used in the construction along with a fair selection of precious metals. But they run early 6000 or 8000 series nokia electronics. Which is not a bad thing as they are well proven and almost industructable.


Vertu is owned and run by Nokia.

I think you only buy one of these if you really are at a loss as to how to spend your millions.

Ultimately, a prestige watch holds it's value and can give a lifetime of pleasure, whereas a phone has a useful life of 18months-2yrs at the outside.

Then it will effectively be worth nothing as the technology will have moved on.


(Ps - I also don't think they look anything special - my V3 Razor looks better IMHO)

I think a "platinum " phone number is a better bet...........ie 0787*1111111 etc............these are the new cherished plates for me and will appreciate in value, indeed numbers like the above fetch around £2K
