Violent crime 'rise' sparks row

Violent crime is up 9% but overall crime is down 5%.

Is this because overall crime is up but the public are more likely to report it if it's violent?

Surely it's because instead of knicking your car from your drive/the street, they will now car-jack you?
Technology has made the previous weak link strong, and now the weakest link in many systems is the human.
Not with my car, but then they wouldn't bother knicking it if I left the doors open and the keys in.

Property crime is falling due to higher levels of security.

Violent crime is rising I believe-not merely the reporting of it.

As many of the population reverts to a feral state-'logical' crimes like stealing to get some money are replaced by beating/killing people for the fun of it.

I was just thinking how much does crime apathy influence the figures.

Most people (on here anyway ) have the view that the police are greatly overstretched and its probably not worth phoning them to get a crime number for the insurance hassle/hike in premiums , especially for 'low level' crime.

Thats probable due of crimes such as vandalism-but we can trust that less cars are being stolen.

Again 'vandalism' is another pointless crime.
