Two airport vehicles have crashed "on the taxiway" and one of the drivers has died

Airfields have strict speed restrictions which are enforced quite heavily. Lose your airfield driving permit and you’re out of a job so I doubt it’s speed related.

I would suggest it was more likely that the driver was taken unwell at the wheel and then crashed into the other vehicle.

Well the news suggests he died of a heart attack so guess that goes some way to confirming that albeit I thought they said he suffered it after the crash. Either way RIP

Depends on the airport, but it was certainly being introduced at Gatwick 5-6 years ago that seatbelts were mandatory, previously they had not been so strict on the requirements for them but after a few incidents.

I think the same is the case at Heathrow as well. Certainly my company enforces that drivers and passengers must always wear seatbelts in the vehicles.

A BA engineers has died, very sad indeed. From the photos online it appears that the other vehicle involved was a Heathrow Airport Airfield "yellow peril" vehicle, Shogun or Land Cruiser type.

Heathrow does have some 30mph stretches of limit within the boundary but the phrasing in the in the news report this has happened close to T5 by the taxiway, so probably a 20mph zone

Yep.

I worked at LHR for over 20 years and the conditions for driving airside definitely got stricter in my time there.
