I bet there were plenty of injuries! But their approach to building and maintenance work there and in Hong Kong is impressive, ie throw numbers at it and get it done, move onto next thing.

I visited a friend in Hong Kong a few years ago, and overnight just down the road from his house they ripped up, resurfaced and had lines painted on a two mile stretch of road. At first I couldn't believe they had done it or how it was even possible, but then before I left I saw them doing the next section. Hundreds of people and 50 odd vehicles and bits of machinery

The vast majority of that was built offsite and assembled on site. Whilts its impressive in the face of it. I would like to know how many checks were carried out during the works. How many near misses and injuries there were. What the working conditions were really like. What the snagging list looks like. And, how long it will last.

That doesn't explain how they managed to repair that sinkhole in Japan. They have good safety laws I'm sure

Japan and China are two entierly different places, been all over Asia and I have seen at first hand some very questionable developments in China and they just dont tell you the number of people injured or killed in large scale projects.

What station?

Saw the tracks being layed, not sure if you could do a full station in a day even with an infinite number of workers (Space, waiting for the concrete box to go off etc.)
A small wooden siding maybe.

Looks like state propaganda. They laid a track in 8 hours.

It says the repair has suffered from subsidence, what is the twist you are referring to?

Very misleading headline, it was just a track relaying exercise, they did not build a station.

We can do the same here, if you throw that many men at it!

We shake our heads at work sometimes when they convert a 1200 metre dirt strip into a Boeing 737/Fokker 100 (ie 2000m) runway in about 6 weeks! Admittedly the ground is flat and being miners, they have some fairly hefty plant machinery they can use.

Essex CC Highways has lots of people, but can't say when a 1' square pothole will be fixed - perhaps because the policy PDF only has 180 pages...

The headline and first two sentences makes the reader belive that it's a bodge job.


The people that did the repair and I assume are the people that know what they're talking about say it's entirely normal and should be expected... And it's all in the same article!
