Aer Lingus, Dublin - Dulles
Discussion
Hi,
Would any of you know which aircraft Aer Lingus use on the Dublin - Dulles route? I'm looking to go for a few days in May, and the pre-clearing of customs at Dublin would be a boon, considering that I'm not going to be there for long.
I suspect it'll be one of their A330s, but I wonder what the comfort is like in economy?
Any experiences?

ASL Airlines Ireland operate the Aer Lingus Dublin to Dulles route with a 757.
When myself & her highness went on our honeymoon last year, we did Glasgow - Dublin - LAX with Aer Lingus and back from Dulles - Heathrow - Glasgow with BA, at that point they were advertising an A380 on the route. We specifically booked the departure that was the A380 and paid extra for a pair of seats upstairs. Part of this was because I'd crossed the Atlantic a fair number of times on United's 757s and wanted something a bit nicer for a special trip. A few months before the trip, the A380 became a 747 and our seats evaporated! After a couple of calls to BA, some of which resulted in them asking for more money to give us a double seat under the 747's tail, we eventually got a double seat at no extra cost. On the day, we turned up at Dulles to find those seats had disappeared too! Why? BA had sent a 777 on that run both that day and the day before. So the same departure had gone A380 -> 747 -> 777 during the time it was on sale. The 777 was overbooked as well and people were being paid to take the later flight. A couple opposite us had booked bassinet seats and had to sit all night with their baby on their knee. We did, eventually, get our money back for the paid-for seats.
In short, take the 757.
EDIT - argh, meant to say, yes - pre-clearance at Dublin is a much more pleasant process than queuing up after a long flight. At LAX we were just diverted off the airbridge straight into domestic departures & could walk straight to the baggage belts.
