A77 to get SPECS

Conversation with a friend on the inside has revealed that the A77 is to get SPECS over a huge distance, about 14km iirc (was over beers).
This will be in a section which does NOT have accident history but is justified because they will aim to change driver Speeding Culture!
I use the A77 on a regular basis and know how bad it can be, but I also know that I break the limit every day on it without incident (not in the R'works though). The real problem is there are some very poor drivers on this road, mostly with irish plates and weather can influence the road greatly due to it being q.open.
Only accident I have been involved in was when I was stationary behind a hge q (caused by another accident) and someone was on the phone in a 4x4 and didnt seem to notice the 1/2 mile q in front.
I have long argued for changes to this road but scameras is a backward step i thinks!

Well the Scamera Partnership seem to have taken up a regular position just inside the second set of roadworks soutbound at the little layby just after the Eaglesham Road Junction. On A Convenient little piece of Concrete that has been added on to the side of the carridgway.
Do you know where abouts on the A77? I know that the New road will be classed as the M77 from Fenwick to Glasgow. None Motorway traffic will use the 'old' road. Therefore the M77 will have no Accident History. But seeing as the A77 Runs from Stranraer to Fenwick this 14km stretch could be anywhere.
Personally I think if this is true it will be on the Ayr Bypass probably from the Ailsa Hospital Roundabout to the Dutchead Roundabout. Although there have been a few Nasties at the Dundonald/Tarbolton Road Junction.

I'm glad. always thought it would be good to have specs on that road. I use it every day and the speed some people do is stupid.
i agree that some people drive very badly on this road but the specs is to be fitted in a section with a good safety record.
SPECS will only slow people down to the speed limit, it will have no effect on dangerous driving, unfit vehicles or excessive speed in poor conditions. It will make a lot of money out of people going to the Airport or ferries.

For a very simple reason. People should be looking at the road ahead and not averting their eye to their speedo all the time, as is the case now.
The whole speeding propoganda thing is total BS in the first place. Another instance of govt constantly introducing more legislation/controls/tax.
