ref. the new 911 Targa - having read the review by Robert Farrago, I am wondering whether or not I am better off with the standard rims and tyres rather than the optional 18" rims and tyres. This is considering my mileage of around 3000 miles per month.

Any views/personal experience on this?!?

I'd guess it's a trade off between looks/ultimate performance versus comfort.

Suggest you try driving 996's with the same suspension set up as you are going for with both size tyres. Make the dealers earn their sale for once. If they can't help phone Porsche GB at reading and point out your dissappoint in the dealer not being able to help you in speccing your vehicle appropriately and what can they do instead?

cheers

18" ride is fine on standard suspension, even with sport suspension it is only slightly firm.

personally think the bulbous 996 (i have one) looks better on the slightly bigger wheels, certainly all dealers reccomend it

I bought one of the first new Targas that came outearly this year, and agree totally that the wider tyres look better. But - everybody, read Faragos review - I ask myself if on my sort of mileage the standard tyres might have been the better choice. Tyre noise is a major annoyance - although it does fade into the background at 130 mph +
