Although this is mainly to do with motorbikes I'd thought I'd post it here as it invlolves the media too.

The Program (Inside Out) on BBC showen in the midlands today had a bit on motorbikes. Now rather than show how usefull motorbikes could be at cutting congestion the program focussed on scare stories like bikers doing 230mph (as if) and stunting etc etc.

Did anyone see it?
They also showed some poor guy who had been involved in an accident (under the speed limit) and had lost a leg.

At the end of the day the message seemed to be, bikes are dangerous, bikers are irresponsible idiots and if you ride a bike you'll get a horrific injury.

Incidentally the MCN message boards are full of stuff about it but they (the posters) tend to be a bit more knee jerk than pistonheads.

Anyway a prime example of balanced reporting from the BBC.

PS. I'll admit biking does have people who'll happily wheelie eveywhere and anywhere I'd like to think that it's just a small minority who give the rest a bad rep

Two guys were wheelying outside our local (we were outside in the sun chatting about our assembled bikes).
The two guys shot past, one after the other. They did this a few times untill one slightly lost it and put his front wheel down and slowed to turn the bike round. Unfortunately he was in front and his mate didn't see him.

It's is quite alarming the amount of blood there is in two human bodies. One was in intensive care for 9 weeks. One died on the spot, almost decapitated by the chain...

I've had bikes for 20 years now and touch wood have only had the one accident - car driver stalled car pulling out of side road, 20 mph impact, I went over roof, my knee didn't.. I suppose I could have done something about it, but I didn't really factor in the fact that the car would stall!!

Am I anti bike? No, anti prat - they're only as dangerous as the riders.

As for positive TV coverage - there isn't any.

What about that TV ad (on bbc I think) about some new music channel or something - It shows a group of bikes going past doing stoppies and rolling burnouts - what's that supposed to signify, and how does it relate to the crap music ?

I've only started biking this year after many years thinking it was probably too dangerous, so I hate to see things that highlight the fact that if I crash I will probably be very badly hurt, although I suppose it does remind me not to ride like a nod.

So rather than nod at fellow riders, should I get my tackle out ?

I too have seen that and I cannot believe they could get away with it! I bet it would never be allowed as an advert on ITV for Yamaha or whoever - who can we complain to?
