I'm considering subscribing and of all the VPN services they seem the best rated. However, there are some mixed reviews. Main use will be watching Virgin TV GO, BBC iPlayer and Netflix away from the UK. I know there's a bit of a cat & mouse game going on with the VPN services and Netflix in particular so trying to establish if its going to work. I can't get a static IP address for our Home account Virgin broadband which was my other routing consideration.

Any experiences ? Will be used on MacBook and iPad if that's important in any way.

been using it for a year or so, with no problems. The mac app is good, quick to connect and stable, same for the android and ios apps. There is also a chrome plugin. If you let it connect you it will allegedly choose the server with the most free capacity - if you look at the list of available servers there are usually a few with a very low load, I tend to save these as my 'favourites'. Speed is fine, not noticed any issues with streaming.

Hunt around, there are some voucher codes floating about too, I got 2 years subscription for c£50 I think.

Been using it for over a year, very handy and a good service.

Sometimes though you will experience issues with streaming in terms of loading. I use it mostly for watching the gaelic football on RTE so I'm on the Irish VPN a lot, second to the American VPN for testing my work's website.

I use it to log onto my NBA League Pass account via India (cost in the UK is £185, cost in India is £12 - I'm not even joking). Works well for that, no complaints about streaming (although I tend to disconnect it shortly after logging in)

Its US$75 on their own website at the mo', down from US$276 standard price which seems to be the same 72% discount the vouchers are quoting.

I've got HMA! at the moment and am about to cancel the subs because they cannot get a server link that will enable iPlayer to be used, this has been going on for about 18 months now. It seems that the BBC have particularly targeted HMA! and block any new server they introduce almost immediately, I can only assume that the BBC have a moody subscription so that they can monitor any new server that appears.

I'm sure when they've seen off HMA! that they will start to attack the next most popular VPN supplier and so on...

Anyway, I was considering ExpressVPN but will also look at NordVPN now that I've read the recommendations in this thread.

Yes but moved to Mullvad: https://www.mullvad.net/en/
Very quick, uses OpenVPN and you can be completely anonymous (they hold nothing about you if you pay by Bitcoin).

Nordvpn doesnt work for iplayer anymore for me. It may be a certain server that will but I have tried loads and no joy. The other channel streaming services work fine.

If you are wanting it for Netflix I've yet to find a VPN that works since they had the crackdown a while ago.

Does anyone have any recent experiences with Nord? Specifically streaming from all types of sources? How does it work on fire stick? Any issues to be aware of?

I’m using ExpressVPN without any issues, but Nord is currently on Gamsgo for €1.41 per month (when you buy 12 months)

Thanks

Best on test

Looks like they've rebranded as Cyber Insider but they're independent and quite open about receiving commission for referrals.

Another vote for NordVPN. No issues but shop around as there are good deals to be found.

I use Nord VPN to stream news from other countries.

Seemed straightforward to buy and set up. But then is stopped working.

Turns out Nord had deleted my account and could not see that they had done so,

They refunded my money and have given me two years gratis.

Can't complain.

For anyone who’s interested, the gamsgo offer worked perfectly. A quick search on the web found a 15% discount code. For €15,81 I got NordVPN for a year, or €1.31 per month. Gamsgo gave me a random email address with password, which worked first time. ExpressVPN now cancelled.

If anyone is interested, my referral code is below.

I used to use ExpressVPN to connect to various UK based stuff from abroad, but a couple of years ago it seemed to stop working on certain sites so changed to Nord and it's been perfect

Nord has worked fine for me in Thailand and Europe, accessing player, it player, etc. Sometimes you have to try alternative UK servers but it always worked.

Now I have a good Asus router at home and use its OpenVPN feature, with an openvpn client on my laptop and tablet. Works beautifully. I have 50mb upload bandwidth at home (thanks to Three 5g) so it works perfectly. I set the home VPN to passthrough the Internet. As a bonus I have full access to my home network. Something to consider if you have a decent router.
