Oil Change on C5 - Replace drain plug?

I've just read an article on DIY oil change on the C5Forum where the author suggests you change your drain plug every time. I've never done this before, and whilst I'm quite happy to do this if it is necessary I've never heard of anyone doing it.

Anybody care to comment....??

When I had my previous C5, I got a small supply of the rubber seals for the drain plug and made sure the seal was replaced at each oil change as that is what you should do, I believe.
When I was in the US last year I tried to get some more seals for Pete Campbell but the dealer said that they only come with the drain plug so I bought him some drain plugs complete with seal (they were quite cheap so it wasn't a problem). If you are stuck, let me know.

No drips or dribbles from mine after 5-6 oil changes. Don't think there was any replacement of sealing rings. I put in a magnetic sump plug in at the first change but that's the only time anything out of the usual was done.

Never changed mine. The Camaro has had at least six. I think you can buy a replacement copper washer used on Astras from Halfords but if it don't leak, don't worry.

I've done several oil changes on my C5 and never changed the drain plug yet. No leaks so far.

Thanks for all the replies, which I've just picked up... However, I happened to be passing Frosts (Shoreham) today, and they actually had the plug and seal. Cost £4.63 for both, including vat. No complaints!!

Just had an interim oil change done at my local Vauxhall dealer (I need to use them to preserve my warranty). Thought you guys may be interested to learn that the rubber washer on the C5 Corvette sump plug (which should be replaced each time) is the same as that used on a 2.2L Vauxhall engine and is readily available.

Its an American (cover ya arse) thing. According to the manual just about every bolt has to be replaced once removed. Not needed.

I've changed a few and use thread sealant as a precaution.

Its only going to be an o ring or copper flange washer we use these all the time on pumps and very rare to change the washer. Magic plugs are a good idea, if you mean the type with a magnet built into the sump plug, as it will pick out any swarf in the sludge.
