New runabout picked up yesterday. 125,000 miles Full Volvo Service history, 2 owners, MOT history shows only having 2 minor bulbs replaced, no advisories on last 3 MOTs. New windscreen yesterday as last one cracked after valeting and before I picked up. Cam chain so one less thing to worry about.
Will go to my local Indy for a once over after the Christmas period - but quietly confident that it is a good one.

Always had a soft spot for these in R-Design trim. Looks like a good example.

If I had the space I'd get an estate version as a dog/tip car, but the trouble is I wouldn't want it to get too dirty... sort of defeats the point hehe

Discovered that it has auto headlights and auto windscreen wipers which is nice 👍.

No doubt will discover more in the days to come, but if any people out there have owned one please advise on any little hints and tips.

Be careful if you’re driving about with the lights set to just sidelights - they won’t necessarily turn off whenever you take the key out and lock the car. I’m not sure why but it just seems to be the way with these.

I really like these, but whenever I drive a C30/S40/V50, I always end up flicking the indicator stalk when turning the key!

It does seem odd having the key hole located where it is, was trying to figure out the reasoning last night. All I can think is that you use your right hand to open the door so won’t have your keys in that hand and therefore can’t scratch the paint work!
It will definitely take some getting used to though. At the moment I find myself leaning over and still using my right hand to turn the key.

Question for the PH intellect: I have a poorly placed dealer sticker on the rear screen that I want to remove, would I be right in thinking hairdryer and nail polish remover?

All done, recommend the hairdryer and nail varnish remover - easily came off and it had been stuck there for 9 years!

Looks like a winner, that.

Any chance of telling us the deal? Obviously it was at the bottom of the depreciation curve, but just how ludicrously cheap did you get it for?

2k, there are cheaper ones out there but condition, service and mot history, location etc sold me on this one.

I have a C30 and you soon get used to the oddly placed ignition key. It seems odd using one on the steering column now.

I have a S40 and this drove me mad when I first got the car. To turn the lights 'off' (one cannot turn the lights off completely) you have to turn them 'on'. When you park, the lights then come on full, so you have to turn them off. This is the same as turning them 'on' when driving. To turn them on, you turn them 'off', but at least they stay off when you park. I think it is designed so that in the end, you just turn the lights on (off) and leave them alone. Also, the flipping seat-belt-not-on alarm will make you crazy until you put the seat belt on. If you find a way of disabling this, please post it on here.

The seat belt alarm does get very loud ! Mine played up not long after I got the car. It would randomly beep, even though there was no one in the passenger seat and my belt was on. That loud beep, when you are not expecting it, doesn't half make you jump !

in a similar vein to saab, i think its reduce the risk of injury to your legs by a big bunch of keys, in the event of a head on smash.

We had a V50 and was a great car. Made us get an XC60 afterwards , as with all Ford based produsts, it does have its foibles. Suspension bushes, on the rear for one. We had somehow lost the shock bottom out bush on one side too. Also out steering rack was leaking and soft alloys, made us decide to not invest, but we were really happy with it with the HDI 2 ltr diesel went like the clappers. Ignition key is different and also being canbus, I fitted an ipod lead to the back of the stereo ( what fun that was getting in there) and forgot to plug the airbag switch in , so needed a reset, but it also told you I had disconnected everything to get to the hifi. Bits like brakes are cheap , with spending a tenner on decent rear pads and like I say paved our way to Volvos, which we are now on our third.

Thanks for the positive comments guys, just been up to SE London so the car has had its first stretch of its legs in my ownership.
Seems smooth and powerful enough in overtakes, everything works well including cruise control etc. Do miss having a 6th gear but road and engine noise is not too obtrusive. May have to look at an aftermarket Bluetooth product for my phone.
The boot lid on this does initially make you think that you’re going to smash the rear window as it goes back that much - something else to get used to. My son did swear when he opened the boot as he thought that it was going to hit the rear window.
Strange that once the doors automatically lock after setting off that it takes 2 pulls on the door lever to open (one to unlock and second to open). Also have noticed that opening the drivers door does not unlock the passenger doors - maybe a setting in the computer menus to change this.
Overall pleasantly impressed.

I’m all for an easy life so will leave the lights in the auto position (0), and I never drive without my seatbelt on so that should not be a problem.

There is and it is very easy change on the security menu.
