Looking to get some paint protection film on my GT3 for practical reasons. Prefer the look of paint so want to keep the PPF to a minimum.

Would be interested in feedback from owners where they get a concentration of chips?

Thinking of getting bumper and mirrors done. Maybe half bonnet and half wings. Is it worth getting the front end done? What about sills and rear arches?

Thanks

That's exactly the same coverage as mine and so far no regrets..The whole car including wheels was also Gyeon coated which makes it very easy to wash.

I only get the bumper and that little bit behind the rear wheels done.

ppf always starts to go south imo, do as little as needed. I have only ever done 1 car, I really don't like the stuff.

stone chips or more hits on PPF look far worse than a stone chip (after a touch up), so PPF you are only making the car nice for the next person really !!

I'm going for similar but without the doors and adding the A Pillars and Roof edge. Hoping any stones stay below the door line so the PPF protection of the sills and rear arches will be good enough.

Also getting the Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra applied to all the panels including the wheels (inside and out) and Calipers. Then a coating of Gtechniq EXO put on top to give a durable hydrophobic sealant coating to help bead off the car body.

Thanks for the feedback. Porsche Reading do something called a “track pack” which is the front end, mirrors, sills and lower rear arches. It’s quite punchy though £2.5k and then extra to detail the car.

Who have you guys used - I spoke to Drew at Depth of Shine (per Taffy’s recommendation - thanks) but he seems reluctant to travel to London.

Any other recommendations?

Martin - do you mind me asking who are you using? I suspect our cars will be quite similar.

Thanks

If you're in London definitely worth visiting Topaz, I doubt any company in the UK installs PPF on more GT cars, including Reading themselves.

Don't bother with half panels, it's false economy, it doesn't really save anything in the way of labour, so it's mainly the extra material costs - Also any chips above the protected area mean the full panel will need a repaint to rectify properly anyway and then of course the film will have to be removed.

Reep south east are about 25 mins from reading and do lots of stuff for them. Give them a call.

They have done my GT3 and my M3 and have had another gt3 in recently from reading

I think that the "track pack" would be something like £1.5k from most. IIRC correctly the likes of Topaz are £4k for a full PPF.

Reep Group in Knaresborough will be doing mine, and as cowboyengineer has said there is a Reep Group branch near Reading who have done a lot of GT cars as well as other top end marques.

Saw a couple of cars at the last PCGB trackday that had cling film plastered over the front. I kid you not! Only put on for the day of course and I have no idea if it did any good!

Thanks all for the feedback and suggestions.

Agree half panels don’t make sense so will take a look at a front end + sills and rear quarter.

Thanks for the suggestions for places to call, will get some feedback. Any other suggestions welcome.

I had the following done on my GT3;

Front PU (bumper),
Full Bonnet,
Full Front Wings,
Head lights,
A-Pillars,
Side sills along with FWD blister of rear wheel arch (this replaces the OE element or can be put over, but stops at the top of the arch and takes a straight line to the door shut),
Door sills (entry / exit),
Rear arches (FWD facing section on rear bumper/PU prone to chipping),
Mirrors.

I also had both doors done to avoid any parking incidents....

My was done by http://cgperformance.co.uk, who done an excellent job and well known on S9 & PGT.

All of my cars have had a full xpel wrap. I use wombat wrapping near Tonbridge in kent. They are an Xpel dealer and charge much less than the likes of Topaz. They have done a brilliant job on all my cars. Xpel has a 10-year warranty so if it starts to look a bit crap I just pop back and get the offending panel redone. It also means you can drive the cars reasonably hard and not worry about stone chips.

The warranty does not cover a stone hit, or lifting edges, so you either have a messy hole or pay again.
