Thinking of importing a Mustang from the US

Hi,

I go to Florida a couple of times of year and have always hired convertible Mustangs, and have always considered importing back to the UK. I'm not massively hung up on the V8 thing so a V6 (or dare I say an Ecoboost....I hired one in May and I thought it was pretty good) would suffice.

The numbers (even with an allowance for man maths) would be;

2016 V6 Mustang convertible circa $14,000, so £11k

If you use a shipping agent to handle everything it's roughly £3400 (not sure how easy it would be to handle this on my own); this includes handling things in Miami and the UK. Then there is vat and import duty of £3300, so £17k in total (which is more than I had hoped for). Still, I love them and prefer them to most cars in the UK.

Any thoughts, or experiences?

You need to add shipping costs to purchase price before you add the import duty then VAT, you also need to add on to that appor £2k for UK conversion/IVA and registration, so more like closer to £20k

Presumably, you do know that Mustangs are now officially avaiallbe from Ford dealers in the UK & Europe?

Not sure why you would want a discontinued, LHD, not supported in UK, not as good as the eco boost, rental car Mustang that is a V6.

I would dread to think of its value within 6 months of arrival on UK shores.
The US Sunshine, holiday feelings, no ownership worries of having a rental will not be present on an Import...

I would be minded to import a special edition Mustang that's not available in the UK rather than a run of the mill one.

However even at £20k that's a big saving over the cheapest RHD version on Autotrader (£30k+) especially if you are planning on keeping the car for a long while.
