Drove from Byron to Sydney yesterday, first day of the NSW school holidays - roads were moving OK but Highway Patrol was everywhere. I’d estimate I saw around 30 marked cars, some hiding in the shadows. I might well have missed a few better hidden, and unmarked.

In addition, one of those cars was a Volvo XC60 - silver with a light bar, but without the fluoro markings, just the blue badging down the side. Technically marked, but not easy to spot, spotted around Hexham.

Trip not helped by speed limit changing frequently for roadworks.

Use cruise control, and keep ‘em peeled!

And double demerits from midnight Thursday. I was thinking of taking the bike up north but being on Ps I’m restricted to 90. I like to think that’d be unlikely to flag and I could sit at 110 but not sure if that’s misplaced confidence.

And it’ll be fking hot.

I’d not chance it.

Watch for roadworks. The Pac Hwy upgrades mean there are so many roadwork zones, some down to 60 or even 40 if crews are close to the traffic.

Oh, and have a fun trip!

That is interesting. I wonder if they’ve got it on loan from Volvo for evaluation. I know Vic HP are moving to BMWs now that Commodore has stopped.

I’ve seen HP Commodores in Vic with markings on the sides but no light bars - hard to spot from the back!

The Pacific Highway is a nightmare of a road. It is also very poorly lit at night and the cats eyes need replacing. Irrespective of the roadworks, the last time I travelled on it from Sydney to Port Macquarie and back the speed limit kept changing from 110 to 110 for no apparent reason. I had my cruise control on and didn't notice it go back down to a 100 and surely enough, next thing I know I see a highway patrol car sitting in the median behind some trees, followed by some red and blue lights in my rear view mirror. As it was the Australian day weekend then I also had the joys of double demerits.

If you are travelling along the Pacific Highway from Sydney up, just stick to the inside lane as nobody else uses it! smile

There’s also two speed cameras in the dual speed uphill stretch after you cross over the Hawkesbury River.

I now travel between Newcastle and Sydney 3 times a week on the Pacific Hwy. Strongly suggest you all use WAZE as you preferred satnav app, it's saved my bacon at least once a week.

Also worth remembering that in NSW the point-to-point speed cameras are for >4.5t only...

Anyway, made it past a load of hidden HWP and other cameras for another couple of fun laps - had the Lib and the Golf this time...
