Anyone else see the Watchdog report on the 406 boot lock?

Am I the only person that thinks only a moron would leave £2k worth of tools or £3k of records in the car overnight? Sure, we should be confident that our cars are secure, but there is such a thing as common sense!

Slapped wrist for Peugeot, nonetheless, for telling the French about it but not the Brits..

i was wondering why that bloke went for a meeting, and left his mobile, suits, and HIS WIFES HANDBAG in the boot?- why did he have his wifes handbag?

any way, basically it sounded as if all you have to do is tap the boot and it opens! bloody hell

Looking through that (ahem) DJ's record collection on that show. Him getting his records robbed seems to be more of a blessing than a theft.

Matt.

Yep.. - I have, and I know plenty of other people who regularly leave £4K upwards of mountainbike, spares, tools, riding kit, etc in there car at races, especially if you are camping there... - Do you have a better idea. I know it is not an ideal situation, but it has to be done on occation.

Fair point, but there is a difference between doing it out of necessity, and doing it out of laziness...

My dad had a couple of eyelets welded onto the inside of the boot and used a high tensile chain & padlock to add a bit more security - a cheap and relatively effective fix...

He stayed inside the boot holding on to the chains for dear life.

Err agree - It is dim. I think that a lot of us if we read out insurance policies carefully would find that they have some form of exclusion to this. Most times it is the usual computers, laptops and high value items. So not only a bit daft leaving them there - but also potentially invalidating the insurance....

And I wonder if they have the specific coverage for such value items on their household insurance? Again, most cover upto around £1000 and then you have to specifically name and value the items.....

You need to be careful in this day and age - cant just assume that putting £3K worth of kit in your car is both safe and insured...

Cheers,

Paul
