Don't want a job!!

Well, having finally achieved investment returns that i wanted to make in the property market, my better half suggested - sorry stated - I would end up bored out of my skull around the house and end up doing something that was dangerous if left on my own so....Ive tried this job application thing choosing areas of work I love/ have lots of experience in. Trouble is, I am struggling with this concept of (having ran/sold a series of business the last 30 years) working for people. I had an interview today in the world of aviation but found myself assessing the two 20-something lads assessing me and quite frankly, they were poor and easily made to see how they were non-reflective! So now I don't see me working under them. in all, it isn't going well for me. Soshall I take them up on spending a day in their roles or just cut out the middle man and decline?? Anyone else gone through eh same dilemmas? Be very interested to know what you ended up doing and whether i should just stick to setting up businesses - which sounds blasé but can be quite tiring and very long hours which isn't the best for family life!
Being honest if the two twenty somethings picked up on the tone portrayed in this post i don't think you'll be getting a job offer anyway. You sound like you would hate the job and be a nightmare to manage.
Sorry if that sounds negative but it is just a product of working for yourself for so long. Can you not turn one of your hobbies into something that makes money? You sound as if you are financially stable and are just looking for something to do so this might be the best route and you can scale it as much or as little as you want. You'll not be told what to do off a couple of twenty somethings either of course.

if the OP has ran/sold business in the past, he should quite rightly be impossible to manage.
Why not set something up new? If you don't need the cash..........then you can start small and any profit is a bonus. Fabulous position to be in really.
Or maybe study something you are interested in? If you want a challenge?
No idea of educational level..........but even if you have a PhD there is another one to do in another subject if you want it?
there are all sorts of home study things if you don't fancy being around a load of annoying youngsters

Do you like animals OP? I know the RSPCA / Dogs Trust are always looking for people to help out part time. Often paid , not a huge salary but a nice little "top up" for you.
I would do that without any shadow of a doubt if I didn't have to work again for the rest of my life.

I suppose i got my hackles up today when the lad interviewing our 'batch' of applicants made a dumb reference to porn when some of the people in the room were females. If he had worked for me, I'd have given him an instant warning on his record!
I've been involved in a number of social enterprises/volunteering for various organisations for quite a few years and you are right, I should explore doing more of that.
Having worked for myself for so long, i guess i would be a nightmare to manage but, I've served our country in various guises under some pretty stressful situations and do enjoy supporting/learning/following someone who is good at their job! And that's the other problem - from the dumb job adverts stating the roles that are totally unachievable in a 40 hour week to people who clearly have reached their position by the fact everyone above them left. Its no wonder productivity is struggling in the UK as staff are probably beaten the moment they show up at work!
Ill let everyone know if i get invited back for pt2.....im hoping im not!!
