Hey guys
Brought a very dark blue (looks black in most lights) Audi TTS mk2 2 weeks ago.
Previously had an Audi S4 convertible B7 for almost 5 years and wanted a change.
Have to say I totally overlooked the TTS....wasn't even on the radar until I started reading more about them and reading/watching reviews.
Viewed a few and phoned about about some others but always seemed to be missing spec even on black editions, managed to find one with everything I wanted minus cruise which really wasnt on my list anyway.
I have to say.......have actually forgotten what a turbo feels like, the power is very direct and feels like a much quicker car then my B7 S4 and love the little pops in the exhaust on upshifts.
The magnetic suspension really firms up the ride.
The semi auto box feels a lot better in the TTS than the S4 too, I find the car mostly leaves you to it.
She is a 2011, FASH, haldex and cambelt done, etc.
Any opinions on APR.......was thinking maybe next year to get a stage 1 done from them.
Seriously impressed with the directness of the power on the TTS and the spec level once you get everything is very decent although was bit disappointed I couldn't get a black edition with everything on it.
Will try and get some pictures up soon.
Thanks to Alex aka DrG for helping me with spec levels and what I should be expecting.
Never thought I would enjoy a TT this much and it's good to be back in a turbo car.
And happy I didn't get the 335i as I was considering it but mostly forcing myself to like them.
Thanks

Will put up some pics asap.....hopefully over the weekend.
In terms of mapping it, anyone got any views or opinions on APR or anyone used other company??
Thanks
I've used APR on my Golf R & rate them as well as the tune highly. Don't think i've ever had as much fun in a car as i do in this Golf, more so with the extra 75bhp/90lbsft.In terms of mapping it, anyone got any views or opinions on APR or anyone used other company??
Thanks

I have a mk2 TTS at Stage 2+ tuned by R-Tech (very well known TFSI tuner) and it's now running 362bhp and 384 ft lbs. Needless to say it's exceptionally quick now and is abit of a sleeper.
Coupled with the lightness of the car it is able to stay with some much more exotic machinery out there and certainly has the element of surprise!
I used to have an APR stage 1 map on a golf R and it was perfectly fine and went well, however a custom set up on a rolling road like R-Tech will always be beneficial as the map can be tailor made to your specific set up and requirements. They also have the ability to map in exhaust pops and bangs etc if that's your thing.
The K04 variant TFSI engine as in TTS, S3 etc is very well engineered and is reinforced from the factory (stronger con rods, better bearings etc) and can handle up to 450bhp/450ft lbs on a stock engine when mapped properly, which is good news.
Things to keep on top of is the fuel pump cam follower wears and needs replacing approx every 20 to 30K miles if using stock pump. Simple 5 minute job. Also, if the car hasn't had regular oil changed the pick up pipe becomes blocked and ruins your engine. Again, simple and cheap to replace before it happens.
You will have a 'D' revision diverter valve which is good as it won't fail as opposed to earlier revisions. However for better response a GFB DV+ is a good buy and easy to fit.

Excellent.......so looks like it is between APR and R-Tech
Definitely agree that it isn't an out and out sports car but the balances between ride, driveability etc works very well.
@David.T - Does having a stage 1/2 etc ruin the daily drive or is it pretty tame when driving from say A to B
'D' revision diverter valve?
Quick question too.....where the driver information is displayed I'm sure you can have a digital representation of boost pressure, assuming this is the case for all TTS's as I cant find mine.
Thanks

I think that's only on the RS model, and I couldn't find it on my TTS either. Thanks

Still think they should of put it on the TTS though.......any other 'hacks' that anyone wants to share? Hidden menus, any particular set ups within the MMI or DIS?I've activated the auto up and down windows via the driver information screen which is a nice touch.

A stage 1 remap is best for daily driving as it will still keep your low end torque and, on the k04, still provide a relatively flat torque curve through the range. My stage 1 from r-tech made 319 bhp and 334 ft lbs and was a nice linear delivery. This will always be the most cost effiectove upgrade.
Stage 2+ aims to give you big mid range torque from about 4000rpm (can't be much lower due to avoiding compressor surge). It also unleashes power at the top end so it just keeps going and going. Stage 2+ makes it feel very aggressive and in my personal opinion if you want the best daily driving characteristics go with a strong stage 1 map from r-tech.
The diverter valve is essentially the "blow off valve" but vents into the inlet tract again instead of atmosphere. Early revisions such as "C" are made from a rubber diaphragm and can split, yours is made from a plastic piston and so does not have the same problem.

Thanks David.T, seems that a light stage 1 will be the best for me.Stage 2+ aims to give you big mid range torque from about 4000rpm (can't be much lower due to avoiding compressor surge). Haven't really got the most of the car yet anyway, so the power delivery still feels new and different coming from a V8 4.2. In fact last turbo car I had was a MR2 turbo rev4 which was back in maybe 09 so its been a few years.
There are a few companies doing remaps etc but I think I will stick with the 2 mentioned above.
All in all, great little cars. Really liking it.
I bought a sprint blue tts roadster earlier this year and have been reading your post with interest. My other car is an amg merc and I also feel the need for a few more horses for the audi. Stage 1 looks to be the way to go for me too and I may try celtic tuning.
A couple of other queries
How do insurers react when you tell them the car is modified?
How's your mpg? I can get 300 miles from a full tank if I am carefully.
Cheers
Mike.

I had a sprint blue S4 cabrio B7. great colour but I have to say I'm really like this dark almost black colour. Not sure what it is called though. I'll look in the book.
I will go for a stage 1 so it doesn't interfere much with daily driving.but like I said I'm still enjoying the power delivery at the moment.
My MPG is pretty good but then again anything would be good considering previous car was an 4.2 V8.
Actually feels like I haven't put petrol in it for ages and I think Sat will be two weeks. Not actually sure what mpg I am getting though but I know the needle barely moves.
Have you found any hidden menus etc?
I found an AC boost gauge in the DIS which tells you how your AC is doing.

Interesting reading this, we're moving out into the country early part of next year and been looking at a new (or nearly new) Abarth 595 Competizione for the wife. This recent spell of snow and crap weather has got the wife bit worried tho so just been looking into TTS's as a poss alternative as the obvious benefits of the quattro.
Her car park at work is really tight with nasty concrete pillars as well, hence why she needs something smallish.
What are they like to live with on a daily basis, also what are the choice options/black edition etc? Be looking at around £18k budget.
Cheers

Really good daily I thought and it felt pretty small and nimble, the steering is light so it feels effortless to drive and lots of performance on tap. Cheers
Had the Black Edition which I thought looked nice, but the ride on the 19" rims was quite harsh at times and that would be my only complaint. Overall it returned about 27mpg which considering it's performance I didn't think was too bad.
I much preferred it to the E92 M3 I had at the time as a daily driver, the M3 didn't get going until 6k rpm whereas the TTS was always up and at it.

Watch out for the long doors! Maybe something 5 door is better or a micro-hatch like the Fiat

I feel the TTS to be a well designed car with some great features, quattro, good road holding, paddle shifters, S mode, and a great exhaust sound. I don't want to install an intake kit or de restricted exhaust system which may bring attention to the car but just feel a bit more power is needed from the 272bhp currently on tap.
I have found a local company called Awesome who I will contact in the new year for a remap anyone heard of them?
