+1 I could write a long list of my reasons but one is he's the radio equivalent of a tabloid newspaper and his knowledge of music is non existent. Also Steve Wright hardly ever announces what the song is either, on the very rare occasion I've been somewhere where I can't turn him off. Both are a waste of licence payers money.

They cut overnight live broadcasts whilst they still give the breakfast show presenter millions hence why Not bought tele licence for 5 years. Even the BBC finding out he's not that popular after the Top Gear fiasco they still give him millions. The BBC is public service broadcasting intending to offer most people something of interest.
I believe a license fee is an outmoded way of paying for it but I've always felt the tiny amount it costs has always given value for money.

No, as much as Steve Wright and his circa 85 show grate on me the one that I find the most annoying is Evans and to think he cops so much money begs belief.The BBC is public service broadcasting intending to offer most people something of interest.

Indeed.Radio 3's "In Tune" during evening drive-time is so relaxing, so convivial, and always has interesting live performances in the studio (many of which by established performers such as Andreas Scholl / Alison Balsam / Yiundi Li). It is, especially when hosted by the genial Shaun Rafferty, very agreeable. For that, and Lunchtime Concert, the licence fee is - for me - a bargain.
By coincidence, mrs cherry was driving to Dover last Friday and we agreed on a middle-ground R2 for an early start. Evans really does talk some shyte.
I don't mind Evans or Wright or Mayo, and quite enjoy Jo Wylie if I'm out in the shed of an evening. Jeremy Vine's Daily Mail reading "I'm not racist but" callers amuse me greatly and Mark er-um-yea Radcliffe with't' folk show isn't a bad listen either.
Having said that I do wonder what demographic Radio 2 is aimed at these days or put another way I wonder what BBC radio station (if any) is aimed at my 30-something demographic. Perhaps it is unreasonable to expect one station to appeal 24/7 but Radio 2 seems particularly lost.
Anyone with reasonable intellect should be fed up of Radio 1 by age 20; Radio 3 and 4 are a bit quiet for my liking, and what the actual f
k is Radio 2 trying to do over the weekends? Elaine Page playing show tunes? Clare Teal talking to people's pets? How can anyone under 70 enjoy that.

What you wanna do right is listen to Shaun Keaveny in the morning (R6 music). That's where all the cool cats hang out.
Vine is worth a listen just to marvel at how utterly vacuous the man is. His ignorance on the nuances of daily life and the way normal people operate is hilarious to behold. He never fails to say at least one utterly stupid remark when he's on. In fact Keaveny uses some Vine soundbites in his show as a short fillers designed to be both humorous and also rip the piss out of the stupid idiot.

Actually meant to add I do like Radio 6 a lot of the time - particularly when Elaine Page is on R2. however I don't have DAB in the car nor most rooms of the house. And it is downright obscure sometimes!

The first time i ever heard 'Teen Spirit' by Nirvana was on the Steve Wright show back when it was first released......i was dying to know who the band was, but as usual he didn't say - more bothered about getting back to his possie!!Both are a waste of licence payers money.
