Looks like a field mouse.

TBH, a "is it a rat or a mouse?" debate shouldn't be that hard.

How big is it?
Mice are generally tiny, rats bigger with thicker tails

It’s small with a slightly furry tail, so I assumed it was a mouse. But I’ve been told otherwise.

Probably similar to water vole, which in turn taste like hedgehog. Then again I can't tell the difference between squirrel and badger, so what do I know? Only that I need to stop frequenting road side burger joints.....

Anyhoo, it's a mouse. One that should be hibernating. Doesn't look too happy, either, probably got woken up by some wood pigeon trying to get him to claim PPI compensation.
