My 10 year old has developed a small obsession with Teslas. We managed to get her sitting in one at Coventry Motofest earlier in the year, though it took some work getting her past all the lads crowding round it.

What she would really like is a ride in one. She's been trying to make friends with the kids whose parents have them at school, bless her, but that's not worked yet.

I can't see a request to a Tesla dealership getting very far. Does anyone know if anyone at Sporting Bears has one which they use for events?

Surely you are strongly considering a Tesla as your next car and need a test drive in one?

This, my friend, is the answer.

Pre-warn the child of your tactics, so she doesn't show you up in front of the dealer. hehe

ha ha - I would be foiled as soon as they'd see me arriving in my old banger unfortunately, though I may try it

I guess I could hire something nice first smile

Why not pop in to a Tesla showroom and ask. Be honest!

They have always been accommodating to me including taking me out for a test drive when I wasn't going to buy.

Just give them a few hours notice so that they can charge it up first.

Solihull Touchwood shopping centre have a dealership inside with cars in the underground carpark, very easy to get a test drive, even being honest you want a go in one.

Test drive something a little cheaper and use that to arrive at Tesla

Depends how old his old banger is, he may have to do this a couple of times.

Test drive a fiesta -> go to MINI and test drive a MINI
Test driving MINI -> Swap it for an i3
Test drive i3 to Tesla garage -> Test drive Tesla

Then walk away and let them sort out the mess.

I would go in and be honest, brands need to foster that kind of enthusiasm even if it doesnt instantly result in a sale, positive experiences in formative years are very powerful and a quick spin round the block is a small price to pay, at the very least they make a child happy.

Tesla are actually doing a "tour" for test drives at the moment (supported by local dealers), you just need to be "considering a purchase in the next 6 months" and they're fine with you bringing extra people. https://www.tesla.com/en_GB/events/tot

Else rent one: https://www.evrent.co.uk/ (although they're in London) https://white.car/ (London, Manchester, Edinburgh) or there's some on the "rent out your car" sites like Turo.

Bit of a weird one but I went to The Gadget Show Live last year and they had lots of Teslas there where you could get a go in one smile unfortunately I missed the signing in! So would have to get there early lol.

When a Tesla garage opened up locally I popped in for a nose, late in the day on a Sunday; there were customers already in there so I figured they wouldn't mind me having a look.

I was greeted very well, I explained that I just wanted a look and a poke about in the showroom one I was happy to be left alone and I was also fully aware they would be soon closing and I would leave as soon as I was asked to.

The woman practically begged me to book a test drive, even when I explained that I a) am not interested in buying one and b) I couldn't afford to buy one even if I wanted to.

She said that it didn't matter, as they want everyone to experience a Tesla and driving electric (I had actually arrived in a ZOE!!), I declined but I was given a card with relevant booking details if I changed my mind.

I don't think the usual 'judging' is an issue at Tesla 'stores' most appear to be in Shopping Centres so they are unlikely to see you arrive in anything, so just 'upgrade' your current car if asked. wink

The website even has a big 'request a test drive' page which would be my first line of attack.

At about 2p a mile, test driving a Tesla isn't exactly going to leave the dealer out of pocket!

Yep, one of my grads (25 years old, and an oik) went to a Tesla "showing" day at a local golf club yesterday afternoon. The salesman said that they were there to introduce the cars, but not give the hard sell, and let him take it out for a 30 minute test drive on dark twisty country roads... This was a P100D, the fast one. He sent me a message saying, simply, "Un-fking-believable."

Go to the showroom and book a test drive. It will be easy. smile
