Hello all,

Can anyone recommend any reputable insurance companies to insure a watch(s)? (eg accidental damage, loss/theft)

Thanks

T.H March.

Not the cheapest, but they are a market leader and insure most jewellers as well as many of my customers. Mention that J&R Jewellery in Ringwood recommended you.

I'm with T.H.March too.

If you have home insurance, ask them first if they'll cover your watch/es.

I just had a look at the T H March instant quote system.

It seems very expensive to me? But maybe I'm totally out of touch with what insurance for watches cost.

My 911 is worth £55k and costs me £210 a year to insure which includes commuting to work and suchlike, but apparently my watch will cost nearly £300 a year to insure.

I’ve just insured a couple of watches on to my collection via Hiscox home insurance.

They will insure any watch under home contents - even +£15k with appropriate disclosure and no apparent limit to collections. If a collection grows at a high rate/high value, it moves over to their specialist team who may be able to cover with conditions with “improved terms”.

IIRC, my last two watches added (ceramic Rolex’s) worked out at approx premium of 1% of insured value.

I recently enquired about about a watch only insurance with TH Marsh. Spent 20minutes giving details and specifics, spent 20minutes listening to all exclusions and limits (safes, keys, house security, Can/can’t does wearing etc) only to be give a quote 25% more than my combined home insurance premium with Hiscox. Again! IIRC, their premium worked out at 4% of insured value!

However, like all insurance, you think you have enough right up to the point you need it.

Give Highworth Insurance a try. I have a combined home and contents policy with the watches listed separately. I had to upgrade my safe but it's a pretty robust policy with few exclusions.

I added 'contents away from home' as an optional extra to my M&S home insurance policy.

You can choose up to £50,000 'contents away from home' cover, with a single item limit of up to £15,000.

I have £10,000 cover with a £10,000 single item limit, and it was incredibly good value compared to specialist watch insurers. Covers loss, theft and accidental damage, plus there's no requirement to list individual items, either

The risk of a total loss on an expensive watch is a lot higher, unless you never take it out of the house.

Chances of paying out a £10m personal injury claim is much less from a watch... wink

Home insurance. I have away from home covering single item up to £10000 and it's very cheap.

Just to add to this thread.

As posted just above, I have just found that adding things to my home insurance is very cost effective.

I'm with Admiral for home and contents insurance. It is renewal time next week so I put all my details in as usual, but this time I added some items that I need covered for theft or loss both in and away from my house:

My Rolex (£7000), a Cartier Trinity ring I bought for Lady Marylebone a few months ago (£13,200), my new Beretta shotgun (£5000) and a few other more minor items such as a new MacBook Pro, DSLR camera etc.

So quite a few high risk items really, and Admiral had to phone me to check through the items, but the quote they came back with was just under £300.

Yes, £300 for the house, contents, and the above items for theft/loss etc even away from home.

I was very surprised at how cheap that was.

My watches plus Mrs Gunks Cartier and jewellery are covered all risks on our home contents policy with Royal Sun alliance. You just need to keep a close eye on their insured values each year but they’ll increase them if you give them a call.

I declared eveything on the home insurance as well.

We pay just over £300 a year and that covers stuff inside and outside the home, with my Planet Ocean and bicycle and her engagement ring on there as named items.

Direct line were easy enough to deal with when I dropped my Ball (Fnarr) and it need a new crystal and case.
