The track day section of this site is hopefully a useful reference but it''s not much fun. Anyone got any bright ideas on what might inject some life into it? I''m particularly interested in provoking reader interaction (no point in just being like a magazine when this is a two way medium).

How about a track by track 'talk you round' discussion, much like the F1 johnnies do? F'instance, someone could talk in detail about how they approach and handle each corner -- maybe others might have differing views...?

I found a web page about the Circuit Guide recently. It seemed to be saying that by paying them "money" they would send me a "hard copy" of the Guide, which I could then read at home, or indeed at the circuit, without the need for a computer. The "price" they quoted was about a quarter of a cheapish track fee, and considerably less than a set of super-sticky tyres.

The Autosport Circuit Guide is an excellent document. Yes its expensive but there again - its hardly a mass market its produced for. Anything that sells in relatively small numbers requiring that amount of research is necessarily going to be more expensive than would seem right for that amount of paper.
I bought my first copy recently and I have found it excellent for understanding the track, find local accomodation, best spectating points etc.
Although its clearly just a big Word document that they print out they have to get enough revenue per copy to support its production, distribution etc. Its hard to get revenue from providing information on the 'net. Ted would know more about that...but I don't expect that the Circuit Guide will appear on the 'net any time soon.
Idea 1..How about a track guide compiled from in-car pictures? - Autosport guide is great but it's a 2d plan so sometimes difficult relating it to the track at speed.
Ideally I suppose a picture taken from inside one car just before turn in, and others in view at apex and exit where possible - sort of where you should be and where you're aiming at.
I claim copyright on that idea BTW!
