Hi,
I’m just in the process of ordering a 420R. Having sorted most of the “options” I’m undecided about whether or not to spec a quick release Momo.
I don’t need it removable for access having tried top on but obviously being removable adds security.

Are there any strong arguments for going one way? Thanks

.....and fun.

You're buying a toy, and a QR Momo is an essential ingredient.

OK, so if I go with QR I’m either going to have to get some man bag to carry it around in when I’m out and about, or is chaining it to the roll bar an option?

Save your money. I went for one with my first new Seven. You look like a tt walking into the pub with it, and you daren't leave it on in case someone nicks it. You don't need it off to get in either. It's up there with cat by-pass waste of money bks.

Waste of time - I just treated mine as an easily nickable steering wheel. But I still left it on 99% of the time because , as said , you look a total tt walking round Tescos holding a bloody steering wheel . They are the answer to a question nobody is asking .

Has anyone been stopped from going on the Nurburgring with a QR wheel?

I know people who lock the wheel to the roll cage so they don't have to carry it around.

Having said that, I saved the money and the Motolita is a nicely made wheel, and won't develop play during use.

Getting in with the hood on is practically impossible for me if the wheel isn’t detached, so I wouldn’t do without.

You can bike lock it in the boot to the rollover bar, or stick it in a small rucksack.

Or you can carry it into the supermarket and look like a t**t in your shorts and karting boots ;-)

Didn't make any difference whatsoever, that I could tell, on my R300. It also cost the same as a new cat.

I have bought a couple on Ebay described as generic but arrive as Momo (look at the description photos).

The ballbearing type are an excellent fit and have no play when new, and at £17 just bin the lot if it develops!

I also tried the slim profile pin release type. They are utter rubbish.

I replace the spacer ring on my car with the QR so the wheel is in the same place, just keep in mind that your reach distance will change.

If you are not doing the swop for ease of getting in/out bear in mind you will have to carry a lock in the car all the time unless you are happy popping it in a carrier bag and taking it with you!

Ive had no problems over the years with the QR bosses. As long as they're kept clean and lightly greased they have been fine. After two years there is no significant play in either of my wheels, certainly less than in the rack itself, from new.

Another advantage might be that you can have two as I do. The one shown my son uses and I use a smaller, flat topped one which gives me a better view of the shift lights.

Bitsilly. "Spacer Ring". You're not talking about a Caterham.
They don't all have play. Go for an after market Rapfix. More expensive but well engineered.

Guilty as charged!
It is a Birkin.
A few similarities mind!!
In actual fact the spacer was retro fitted by an owner and I guess is an option to any Caterham owner who wants to move the wheel closer?
I will certainly look at that boss, cheers

On a Caterham you can move the wheel closer by simply sliding the column after undoing the clamp.

Had a fixed Motalita on first 7 and second one has come with a QR boss and Momo suede wheel. Haven't ever used a "standard" QR wheel, but the Rapfix R boss that's on the car I've recently bought seems to be spot on. Seems like no play to me, though my experience is limited to this set up no nothing to compare too
