Dealer Price - room for chipping ?
Discussion
Hi all,
I'm b****y hopeless at buying cars. I've seen a Porsche 996 at a UK, main OPC priced at 58,995 (sterling).
Assuming it's an average price for an average car (and it seems to be);
Question 1; what might be their bottom-line, CASH price ?
Question 2; what should I make my first offer ?
Question 3; what would YOUR highest bid be if you were in my shoes ?
Any good rules of thumb ?
All feedback gratefully received - I'm far too tight to make mistakes with this sort of thing !
thanks in advance

There's never a right answer to this question really IMO. It depends how long they have had the car, how much other interest they have had, whether or not they have similar cars coming in, either in p/x, or from their buyer, how good a mood the sales manager is in, whether or not the car is about to appear in a published advertisement, what the outlook is like for luxury cars, and the time of year. Most importantly of all, it depends on how much you are prepared to gamble - i.e. will you take the risk that you can't reach a deal, and someone else buys the car in the meantime? I wouldn't claim to be an expert but I would knock off a couple of grand to start with and play it by ear.
I sold a 996 c2 to a Porsche dealer for £45k, and it was then advertised for £52k. I reckon they aim for a 10% margin, after adding the cost of a warranty (say £750).
I'd bid them £53k, and pay no more than £56k - whatever you think now, there are plenty of 996s about, so walk away if necessary.
