Funniest thing I have seen since The Office - out on DVD today.
Is it me or do no southerners find it funny?

Last week the barmaid with the chinese love balls nearly gave me a hernia....!

I wish they would repeate his first short stories where he was the ice cream man and other chracters.

Absolutly fantastic, if you liked 'The Office' watch the Ricky Gervais Chat Show on C4, very close to the bone, loved the bit about the special olympics

The DVD is of the first series and has an hour of unseen footage - Fun night ahead for me!!!

Must just be the southerners I associate with, who glare at me howling with laughter with a look of pure disdain!!

I find it funny and I live and work in the bit of the country that subsidises everyone else.

It's almost in the same league (wait for it) as that other classic Ooop North comedy, "the league of gentlemen" which is also available on DVD from all good audio/video outlets.

Anyway, I thought there was only me and Spooky on here that would find Phoenix Nights funny. It is bloody hilarious! Peter Kay is also brilliant in stand up, he was on in Wigan at the time of the first episode of Phoenix Nights this series. After enquiring as to whether people had taped it and a couple of people saying no, he said "good job I have then eh?" Got a big screen on, put the episode on, sat and watched it with everyone and then came on for an encore, top stuff.

I agree that most southerners don't find it funny but at the same time I could see why they wouldn't (And no it's not because they are humourless, shandy drinking, miserable ts )

Managed to miss most episodes but will get the DVD when get a chance. But did get a magazine the other week with a little background on the current series.

Best comment was about the two bouncers to the club. Their worst day being when they got beaten up by a bus full or midgets on a day out. One of them says out loud - "how far away are they?"..... Laughed for ages on that one...

Oh, and a friend of mine has met him too - at a wedding too. Supposed to be just as funny in real life. Now hes someone to go to the pub with....

Cheers,

Paul

This should be on the Claim to Fame thread but I met Peter Kaye when he played Wigan. Top down-to-earth bloke too. Pity he's from Bolton really...

Who said Southerners don't understand what Northerners say? Pity. Ya missing out on something infinitely more agreeable than EastEnders, The Bill et al.

Are southerners who don't understand what northerners say ignorant inbred locals who have never travelled further than the Watford gap or what? I have no trouble understanding Geordies, Welsh, Mancunians, Scousers, Cornish, Scottish etc accents nor foreign people speaking English, or even posh southern tw@s, so why do southerners seem to have such a problem with everyone else (not all southerners of course)? Is it just sheer bloody minded middle england style insularity?

No, it's just that the south east corner of the UK subsides the rest of you, e.g. the City has a GDP 6 times larger than Welsh Wales, or something like that.

Don't you know, it's grim oooooop north ya knaw, look at the weather forecast each day we ALWAYS have warmer weather than thee.

That's because you pay more tax. Your council employs blokes with microlites to fly around the area with hair dryers and blow the clouds away - usually in our direction.

I think you southerners are great. With your big cars and your special accents. You rock.
