UK Passport Renwal from Dubai

What is the procedure for renewing a UK passport from Dubai and how long does it take?

My passport has no more free pages.

I have completed the application online and made payment.

On the online application it asks you to send back your old passport to their Liverpool address. It says they can't start the application until they receive the old passport.

I need my old passport as it has my resident visa.

Do they send it back with the new passport?

Have you tried calling to ask? Interested as I need to do the same when I get back.

They always send the old passport back - it'll have the top corner snipped on the cover, but the inside pages are all kept as is, and your visa remains valid. You just have to travel with old & new passport until your visa expires.

The send the new and old passports back separately.

Hopefully enough time!

The application is now in process. Sending my current passport today via FedEx express.

I have provided the passport office with my residential address here in Dubai. Presume they courier the new passport to your physical address rather than sending by post??

you don't need a full page free for the US anyway, its just a stamp. you do need a full page for a madagascan visa but i understand a sufficient contribution to the customs officer can get the visa placed in your second, expired, passport...

This is the only small remaining space I have in my passport. Will that qualify as enough space for a US stamp on arrival?

The last thing I want is to be refused entry.

I can exit and re enter DXB with my UAE ID card via smart scan.

I think you might get away with it on page 20. However you've got plenty of time so why not get a new one. You can use an agent such as visa swift for a guaranteed 2wk turnaround.

It might be a bit late now but you can apply for a second passport if you need to travel while the first one is in processing for a visa - I have two and its very handy!

Not everyone can do that though. You need a signed letter from your employer's UK office (which is checked) stating why you need it. This is normally a formality but you need your employer onboard.

Courier will just do the usual Dubai thing of phoning you - and/or not bothering to deliver it to you so you end up chasing them for days on end, only to go to the Aramex office yourself and pick it up.
