Can anyone tell me if the new (out in 2016) SQ7 has the same tyre wearing issues of the previous Q7 models...?
I ran the old 4.2tdi Q7 for 8 years and I've got an SQ7, so I guess I'm qualified to give an answer based on experience rather than speculation. The old Q7 only had a problem with tyre usage if you didn't watch the tracking and the inflation pressures. Let either of those go and the wear on the edges of the front tyres was severe, but keep an eye on both and you would get "normal" usage out of tyres - well I did anyway out of the premium tyres I put on the car. I used to get 18,000+ miles out of a set of tyres - though we did lots of motorway trips in our Q7 which were probably kinder on the tyres than low speed manoeuvring around town.
So far on my SQ7 I can't see any premature wearing at all - though obviously I am looking after the tyre pressures as usual. One thing I would say is that the SQ7 has far less aggressive camber when the front wheels are turned compared with the old Q7. I suspect this will help with tyre wear.
Overall, the SQ7 is a somewhat lighter car than the old model (depending on the engine you had) so this will help. The SQ7 is a significant step up in internal materials quality as well - genuinely nice place to be. The engine is a masterpiece - not just in performance but also in consumption - my car is averaging 33mpg over the same trips that the old 4.2tdi averaged 22mpg. The kids love the amount of space in the back - significantly more than the old car, and the reclining rear seats are popular as well.
Overall, we really like it. Though if speccing a new Q7, I have to say that the current colour choice is completely grim. I specced an Exclusive colour for my car and broke the production line, so Audi pulled the Exclusive colour options from the Q7 lineup!

Blimey, your garage is amazing! I must find out what sort of job you do and copy it....The old Q7 only had a problem with tyre usage if you didn't watch the tracking and the inflation pressures. thanks some very handy info....whilst on about SQ7 any idea on an overall build/ delivery timescale...? seems a wet finger in the air is more accurate....
I have no useful feedback on this as I ordered one with Exclusive paint in June 2016 and we took delivery of it in April 2017, thankfully just before the car tax changes. Audi put the delay down to problems caused by the Exclusive paint and promptly revoked the option from the website. A friend ordered a 3.0tdi in a standard metallic and got it within 3 months. The "myAudi" website delivery date jumped around a hell of a lot during the wait, it really wasn't useful or indicative at all and the dealer had no better information either. That aspect of the purchase was pretty disappointing.Update, had SQ7 since November last year, epic big bus and massive amount of power and a very nice place to be. more so than my previous SQ5 (which was at the time the best car i have owned).
new question though, how do you lock the car with the dog in and de-activate the alarm sensors?
any help appreciated.

It’s definitely in the manual as I read it a few months ago.
Unfortunately I can’t remember with 100% clarity but as said above I think it’s a button on the drivers door edge.
There’s some useful stuff in the manual - like pressing the front passenger aircon knob when you stop engine off will keep circulating any residual hat from the engine into the cabin. Useful on days like today when parked up waiting for the boy to finish his rugby training...
