Regrettably I need to move a house full of stuff from France to the UK. Quotes from standard international movers are around £2.5k. That's a lot of money to me so I wanted to check if there are any more cost-effective ways that I may have not thought of, aside from a few mates and a couple of Luton vans.

Cheers.

You could also try posting a request on https://www.loadup.co.uk

If someone has an empty van returning from Spain, or elsewhere, it can be cheap.

Moving from Rhône department close to Lyon to Bucks/Beds area (hence the regret). We'll be renting though, so where exactly isn't finalised yet. Moving in about 6-8 weeks.

I've sold up in France twice and both times sold as much of the large furniture as possible to the house buyer , it's fairly commonplace in Europe . It's worth considering unless your really attached to the furniture.
I got back last week from selling my holiday house , I moved using the wife's 3series touring and a roof rack ! Buyer bought all the furniture , and the neighbours scored for a lot of odds and ends I'd never used down there in years !

2.5k for removal sounds about right to me.

You might save a few hundred elsewhere, but do you really want the grief, stress and hassle?

I would pay up, relax and let someone else do all the work.

When we moved back the quotes were around the £2.5k backloading by a removals company so we couldn't specify when.

So in order tomsave the cash we sold a lot of the large stuff and hired a 7.5tonner for the round trip, i reckoned we saved about £1k but i think if doing it again I'd pay the £1k for the easy life and let the pros handle it.

Thanks for the replies. It's good to know that the ballpark figure is about right at least. I have looked at cheaper options but they all rely on favours from friends/family, and trying to tie everything up to happen at the necessary time is probably just going to be too difficult for the saving.
