Air France A380 - engine cowl disintegrates over Atlantic
Discussion
Ugh! Front fan disk has totally separated from the rest of the engine. Would be interesting to see what hit the fuselage! Needless to say that isn't a failure mode which is supposed to happen (should only shed a could of blades maximum), as any blade is supposed to be contained within the cowling.
Took a while to work out what I was looking at.

And here it is coming in to land. Broken indeed.

Never seen a fan disc gone like that before. That is proper serious. The pylon has had a good whack too. New underpants please.
It was still dropping bits onto the tarmac when it taxied from the runway after it diverted into Goose Bay. AF haven't disembarked PAX either, rumour is that they are being kept on board until AF get a relief flight out to Goose!hyphen said:

Seems everyone is still onboard now, they've decided to wait until 2 relief 777's arrive rather than deplane.
Why would they keep the passengers on the plane?Mind you this is AF were talking about.
