To solve the "problem" of mobile phone use while driving, just decomission all speed cameras, and modify them to take pictures of any vehicle giving off a mobile phone signal. Easy, and the go'mnt could make even more money than from the gatsos....

Nasty, eh?

So passengers aren't allowed to use phones either? Hands-free kits must be totally out then.....

As would pedestrians walking past the cameras whilst using their phones.. As would any system that 'reported back' on you using GSM.. as would... etc..

It might be vaguely techincally feasible, it'd be mind bogglingly comlpicated and expensive to make it work.

So don't worry about it, eh?

You'd see who was on the phone from the forward facing picture. These wouldn't be on roads where pedestrians have easy access, and another sensor would know if it was a car or a walker. It's only a mad idea, but I bet it would work - they'd make it work if it involved enough money !

If it's possible to read the number plates and tax discs of passing cars, then surely it's possible to identify drivers who are using phones.

hmmm...

Or scratching their heads. Or sneezing.

Why not sit a policeman on top of a pole (pool attendants have been doing this for years).

Saves buying all that expensive technology, cuts down unemployment and they could do paperwork during quiet moments!!

Make it a non-endorsable offense, but a 30 quid fine, and the money would roll in. They could then stop plaguing us with speed cameras... and the roads would actually get safer. Now there's a thought. Genuine safety? nah.
