So I've been fancying a change and have been on the look out for a pick up of some kind. Missed out on a couple, so spent days trawling the ads all over the net.

And stumbled on this for sale.

They seem to be getting pretty rare in the UK these days. As this was the only LS1 powered z28 I'd seen for sale anywhere. But it's the 6 speed manual box that was the attraction.

So went and got it bought.

It's not a pick up... and now I have two LS1 Camaro's! eek

Have owned my blue automatic one for over 10 years now. But once I've swapped some bits over between the two it'll be up for sale.

So the new one is green with tan interior. Apart from that it's almost identical to my blue one. Both are 99MY with the same options.

Automatic one

Both great cars, but the manual adds another level of involvement and is more fun because of it.

Please don't swap over too many parts from the blue one. The ride height, wheels and sticker on the blue one are atrocious. Blue one just looks like it's poorly loved imo / has a hillbilly owner

Out of order. His car, his choice. You seem not even to have a garage in your profile.

Good work finding a manual, have often thought I'd be tempted by one but they're so few and far between it seems?

Thanks. The 4th gen Camaro's seen rare in total now in the U.K. I'm not 100% sure but think there might be only 10-15 manual LS1 Camaro's in the whole of the UK, according to the research I've done.

i've got a manual six speed Lt1 SS that might be up for grabs soon if anyone needs to scratch that itch? Full white leather interior, fully loaded, brought it as an investment a few years back but can't drive it now as I'm a bit too much of a of a Raspberry Ripple :-) I've just replaced it with a Typhoon so could do with putting some cash back in the bank

TBH, double stripes look way cooler than a single one.

Yep you've been lucky finding a manual. I'm lucky enough to have one too. You'll find it much more involving than the 4l60E

Twisted's car was one of 3 manuals LT1 camaros I owned and was by far the best. I still miss it and am almost tempted if he is selling (but the drive is full!)

I know I am in the minority, but I prefer the LT1 to the LS1 - more low down grunt and the revised firing order of the LS lost the proper Yank Burble...

Glad you liked the LT1 they are cool too. smile

I remember back in the day people discussing the low end grunt of the LT1 vs the LS. But it’s all feel rather than stats.

Iirc the LT1 made peak torque at 2500rpm while the LS makes it at 4400rpm. Which gives rise to the claim.

The funny thing is. An LS1 actually makes just over 95% of its torque at only 1500rpm. And 95% peak torque from an LS1 is actually quite a bit more than the peak torque of an LT1. Meaning, that at any given rpm the LS1 is always making more torque than the LT1.

It has now transpired that Mrs Twisted doesn't want to sell it, she had the option of keeping the now 1 year old top of the range Honda CRV or the SS and it appears the SS won :-), after buying several shoguns and mercs its nice to have two cars on my driveway that I don't watch depreciate by a grand or two every year and never will

Rims and exhaust now swapped over. The SLP Loudmouth exhaust works really well with the manual gearbox and has eleminated the drone that the auto had. Personally I love it. But it is most definitely an obnoxious setup. And not something I’d plan to start up in the wee hours to avoid annoying the neighbours. It’s a lot louder than my TR7 V8.

Got a few bits to sort still. The brakes are totally hopeless. And an oil leak from the gearbox where someone hasn’t fitted a gasket correctly.

The manual should be more economical than the auto. But it encourages you to drive differently... typically got 22-24mpg from the blue one. Not managed to better more than 18mpg yet out of the green one biggrin

I know these cars aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. But they are hugely entertaining.

Have you got a skip shift eliminator fitted? Being forced to change from 1st to fourth unless you floor it would do my head in!

I manage to get over 30 mpg on long runs but normally average 23 ish.

Well worth upgrading to polly bushes. Made a noticable difference on mine but to be fair it was on the original bushes albeit low mileage.

Think it must have CAGS disabled as I’ve never seen the light come on and it doesn’t do anything on gear selection.

Have seen 31mpg from the blue one in the past.

Yeah agree about the bushes. Fitted UMi Performance tubular LCA’s and polybushes to the blue one. Going to do the same to the green one in spring. Also got a set of subframe connectors to go on.
