I had my side windows done in a black tint to the legal limit (which isnt that dark) with security film - it stops the glass being easily broken and keeps the sun out/cabin cooler in summer. I didnt have the rear screen done as visibility is not that good anyway at night time and it just makes it worse

As long as you dont go for the illegal black pimp limo tint then I think its fine

Interesting thread - is it wrong to slightly chav the elise?

Last week I went to a car stereo specialist who have, rather creatively figured out a way to beef up the sound system - including putting a small sub in a custom box in the passenger footwell - the box is in the same shape and roughly the same size as the existing footrest.

They can also fit an ultra thin but pretty powerful amp under the passenger seat. In addition to this they have suggested replacements for the existing 4 speakers you get on the 111R that will significantly improve the sound quality.

Should I go ahead with this level of pimping?

Ok so the car is going to get a bit of chaving on the 25th of April, apparently going to take them a day and a half to fit everthing.

The spec is as follows:

Genesis PJ Amp
Alpine 9851 head unit
PlG (could be P/G) 4.5 inch speakers for the front of the cabin.
Alless 6.5 inch coaxial speakers for behind the seats.
JL Audio Sub Woofer and custom box to fit in the passenger footwell and replace the current footrest.
Cables and fittings.

This is what the guy has written on the back of the business card he gave me detailing what they were going to do. I'll write exactly what it all is when I have the receipts.

They were saying the best thing to do would be to run the speakers directly through the amp for better sound quality - the amp will allow independent configuration of each speaker and seperate sub woofer controls.

Total cost: £1360.00

The Amp is ultra thin - apparently has some kind of revolutionary cooling system allowing them to keep the size to a minimum - they are fitting it under the passenger seat!

I'll get some photo's done of the install and post them up once completed. I can't check the community webshots page from work other than from a bloomberg terminal - will have a look later.

Unfortunately no blue w*nker lights thrown in for free - i'll therefore give them a miss - such a shame!

Just my opinion but......

If were to drive a Lada or Skoda (now I know Skoda's have improved but it's still a skoda ) Then I would consider blacking out the windows just in case anybody recognised me as I was driving past.

Thing is, most of us bought an Elise because we love being part of an exclusive club, and I don't know about you guys but I want people to see me driving around in my Liz. Especially when you pass one of your old school mates in there punto !

The "Chav" stereo is being fitted as this is written, should have the car back tomorrow - will try and post some pictures of the installation when its done.

Interestingly the head unit they are fitting has a special IPOD function whereby you can control the IPOD from the head unit itself - meaning you could store the IPOD anywhere you can run a cable i.e; the boot or on the "parcel shelf" if you can call it that.

That will sound

I too will be interested to know how its all fitted as I feel the standard 2 co-ax setup in my s1, albeit with Alpines fitted, is pretty guff.
