Pipex are doing 512 to 1 meg at no cost, or 512 to 2 meg for a £15 one off fee

I phoned up BT to ask about leaving BT Broadband and their response was to up my connection speed to 2mb AND give me £6.50 per month discount for the next 6 months.... not bad...

Apparently, everyone will be upgraded to 2mb in due course but if you actually phone them, they will upgrade you immediately.

mine is due for review in the last week of April.

But more impressively than that I've just spoken to the first Indian call centre where I had no communication troubles at all - they understood me fine and I understood them which is even better!

Just saw this and promptly phoned BT demanding-ish my immediate upgrade now! although i was nice about it. Anyway it turns out that Bt are upgrading everyone free to the highest speed their line can take and it started in March. they are slowly getting round to people. You can go through to the upgrade centre and get it done there but you will have to start a new contract although it will still be free. Apparently i can only go up to 1 meg.
edit...thanks for heads up woody!

Yeah I read about this and when you hit your limit they turn the bandwidth down to 128k until the end of the month!!!

I think they allow you to buy extra time though
